Venezuelans: The way we are…

in #writing7 years ago (edited)

It was almost 12 noon, an overwhelming heat and a crowded subway... There I was.

For some reason someone started talking about the country situation. Little by little, the voices joined, until a hullabaloo arose: "Those who take the bonds are dragged," "Well, I'm not with the government but I need the money," "you're pushing me, are not you seeing ? ","I am a nurse and I earned one hundred and twenty thousand fortnightly lady, what do I do with that? ".

Everyone started arguing. I got upset, closed the book I had been reading and told the person who was next to me:

“Who wants to vote, that votes. The one that does not want to do it, that does not do it. Who wants to go, let him go. Who wants to stay, that stays. Is it so difficult to accept that? People love being involved in the lives of others. What annoying!”.

The screaming continued, it was unbearably hot and the subway was slower and slower. An eternal ride.

Suddenly, an old lady shouted: "SHUUUUUUT UP, LET’S GET A DRINK!". She took a bottle of rum out of her bag, extended her arm and raised her drink in a victory’s signal.

Instantly, everything changed. People started laughing and answering her: "Open that bottle! I like that! That's the best solution!”. I got a big laugh out, said something like "Yeeeeeah!" and I joined the party that now reigned in the wagon.

The woman did not open the bottle, “It's for sale, I do this for a living” she said laughing, as she got off at the next station. The whole train car attended her farewell, she had such enthusiasm that she passed it onto the rest of the people.

Those who were fighting now were the best friends. The heat disappeared. Everything, everything changed.
"Venezuelans are amazing!" Someone said there and the rest of the way, passed peaceful.

When I arrived at my destination, I could not help remembering what has been present in my mind for quite some time: Our sense of humor is what saves us and sinks us at the same time.
