Good morning, I've self-published 7 books and had a traditional publisher for 1. I was so ecstatic to finally find, after 19 years in the business, a publisher willing to take a chance on me but the experience was less than ideal. I worked 6+ months on the manuscript, they published it but then put forth very little effort to promote it. It got a 4.9 out of 5 rating on Amazon but it didn’t reach enough customers to spark decent sales. After this experience I wouldn’t publish traditionally again unless the offer was too good to refuse. Self-publishing is an immense amount of work, yes, but to be in a situation where you know you have a quality product and people would buy it if it was promoted properly is a very frustrating position to be in. I learned a lot about other aspects of the business from the experience though and I became a better writer for it so it was all worth it in the end!
