So, I thought I'd just give a little story and brief introduction as to how I got into and discovered Prepping.
I 'woke up' as many people call it, in late 2012. Basically I had been questioning things happening in the world for a long time, I stopped watching television in 2006, mostly because there was nothing of interest on it and because they kept repeating the same old dross year after year.
I rarely watched any TV after that and stopped paying for a TV licence (yes here in England we are taxed to watch live television, go figure). I am now very proud to say that I haven't funded the BBC's activities for over 11 years.
I had a lot of questions and started to ask more of them, about matters and events happening in the world, either nobody or nowhere I was currently looking knew. Or they always gave the same pre-programmed answers "That's just the way it is." or "It's how the world works." or "That's the world we live in".
None of these answers people had were any longer satisfactory to me, the answers contained no substance and it's now I know it's because they don't know the answers, they are not interested in the facts or the history of the matters affecting them and they are perfectly happy and content to accept someone's word for it (mostly the TV's) and to live in blissful ignorance.
Challenge anyone on matters that they believe in affecting them and they'll go to a very short number of pre-programmed answers and behaviours. Question those and they instantly go to the pre-programmed default and aggressive actions, one of anger and to raise their voice so loud that they drown you out. It is very disturbing to witness this behaviour. People defending the very system enslaving them through the same intimidation and often physical violence towards us that seek answers, that they themselves are subject to and that keeps them in line and that they have accepted because they are utterly and completely broken and submitted to it!
People are all too pre-occupied and distracted with matters that no longer hold any interest for me, because they are absolutely meaningless. What some fictional character is doing what in some fictional TV show or what some talentless 'Z' list nobody actor or actress in Hollywood is up to on holiday DOES NOT help the world with the problems we face in it! In fact I now realise that the reason they propagate this rubbish is to KEEP people pre-occupied and to flood them with mindless dross and offer them more and more 'convenient' ways to access this mindless information and gossip, such as smartphone apps etc etc. Just look at the shelves in newsagents and how many 'gossip' magazines there are these days, the number of websites dedicated to telling people what other people they don't know are doing. Imagine if they spent this time on themselves? How far they could go, what they could achieve?!
I wasn't prepared to spend my time on this tosh anymore because I could see it for what it was. There had to be a reason for the major events I had and am living through, there had to be someone gaining from what is happening, I wanted to know and I was interested in what those were and I was not willing to accept the mainstream narrative as it was devoid of evidence to backup their ever wild and fanciful statements. I also was now free of the pointless and mindless things that people spend hours talking about everyday, I had no interest at all in the latest installment of Big Brother or the other mindless rubbish which was starting to come out like Britain's Got Talent or those shows that people audition to sing on!
I saw and read a LOT of articles across multiple platforms, video's and other material and came to the conclusion that it was all being driven by the banking sector and those that run it, I didn't know anything about the banks and it's finding out about the banks that I came across the most important video I think I've ever watched on the subject. Money Masters documentary made in 1994 I believe. You can find it here on my YouTube channel.
So then I thought, "ok I've found out for now from all the information I've looked at who and what are behind the major negative events in the world", I now knew the real reason for why I pay taxes, I know that there is a massive subversion of the laws of England and laws of other countries around the world, broken just to fit and further their agenda. What started with not watching TV became the realisation that the Private Central Banks OWN the Mainstream Media, so it's no wonder if you were to ask someone in the street what the difference between Money and Currency is, they don't know the answer! So what can I do about it? How can I protect myself from the actions these lunatics are taking?
Luckily in finding out about the banking industry and the Fiat Currency Ponzy Scheme we have been forced into from birth there were some suggested video's about living off grid and self-sufficiency, homesteading and people stacking gold and silver, some of those people doing this were Preppers. Obviously I'd started to discover those that were also wishing to remove themselves from 'the system' and who also did not want to further fund the private banking cartel.
I then found a couple of Preppers on YouTube. YouTube was becoming a huge wealth of information to me and because I didn't watch television it also became a place where I could find interesting material that entertained and interested me. I came across MainePrepper and FunkyPrepper on YouTube and subscribed to them. Obviously being awake you don't just take information from one source, I was doing what the mindless people with their heads in their phones were NOT doing! I was critically analysing information I came across and cross referencing and seeking out the source and checking their legitimacy too. Critical independent thought is something I got back and it's not something I'm going to ever give up again!
MainePrepper was a huge influence on how and what I prep for, a really amazing man. Unfortunately his channel is not on YouTube anymore, his injuries mean he can't do YouTube at the minute, but I wish him well and hope he recovers enough to say hello to us all at some point. FunkyPrepper is a British Prepper and from MainePrepper and FunkyPrepper is how I found all the other Preppers I'm subscribed to and from those I've found more and so on and so forth. I looked at what they had and I got a pencil and notepad and wrote down what I had in case of an emergency and literally the ONLY thing I had was a knackered old torch running on D cell battery's.
I thought to myself "This is absolutely NO good!" What if the electricity goes down? Water and gas? What if I need to protect my breathing or fight a fire or do First Aid on myself or others? I had NOTHING at all. Literally nothing!
I realised from seeing what Preppers had, just the magnitude at how exposed and vulnerable I would be should even a small emergency happen, I couldn't believe that I was so vulnerable. I now feel so sorry for those that aren't prepared, they are even during small emergencies putting themselves and those closest too them at HUGE personal risk! The power does go out. The water does go off from time to time. There are interruptions in gas supplies. This was clearly a huge problem, so I had to address this issue and this led me to my initial acquisition of some cheap gear (just one of the many mistakes on my prepping journey). That cheap gear didn't last long most of it and what has been robust enough now lives in my Bicycle Bag, just so I have something with me.
Anyways this is how I found prepping, it was coming to the realisation that I was in a very compromised and exposed position and I want to be in a position where I am more in control. In control of what my time earns me, more in control of my future and to free myself from the constraints of the unlawful system built around us is attempting to place on us.
I peacefully non-comply with their system now
I have knowledge, training and equipment now which can help myself and others
I am removing support for their system and instead supporting my own development and helping others to develop and help themselves also.
I have removed all physical assets from their system and they are now MINE!
I am building and developing my crypto-currency assets and hope to support myself fully by being my own bank :-)
If you want to know more then please let me know or if you want me to continue this story into how and why I got into YouTube and from there other platforms to here on Steemit.
I hope you find something useful here on my Steemit channel and across my YouTube and VidMe video's. I am still learning and still developing and finding my way. But what I've tried to do is to concentrate on covering aspects related to 'Bugging In' things that people will need to have in their homes to make dealing with emergencies a lot less stressful and to give them the confidence to operate under stressful conditions more effectively. The reason is because I didn't have these items one time myself and now I do I feel a lot more confident and less anxious about an emergency should it ever happen in my area. We've had the water get shut off unexpectedly, it hasn't affected me. We've had a powercut for a few hours. It didn't concern me at all. I've had neighbours dealing with medical issues and helped them. I have basic First Aid training and the First Aid supplies to deal with almost any issue. I wouldn't have all this now if I hadn't discovered Prepping and being on YouTube and other platforms has exposed me to people with a massive wealth of knowledge that I've learned from and we've helped each other to consider and develop our preps by the interaction we have had. So please let me know if you want me to cover something or if you want my opinion on anything at all just let me know.
Be safe and be prepared.
Geordie Prepper
It's great to read this type of stuff over here at Steemit! I too have started "prepping" even though I didn't know what it was called. Very interesting and useful stuff. Now I want to make my own post about this :)
It would be interesting to read how you got into prepping. Be safe and prepared friend.
You go, prep prep prep.
You too man, be safe and prepared.
Great read. I got into prepping about 4 years ago. I started with food stores. But my biggest push was in learning to do things for myself. So lots of You tubing on learning basics to survive without the conveniences of the grid.
Great to hear, keep prepping :) oh and steeming on
Great post geordieprepper, I amazed every day just how many people appear to be totally oblivious to prepping. They just can't seem to grasp the logic of it.
I was born 1940 prepping was our way of life, there wasn't any name for it then, it was just called living. We didn't have indoor water or plumbing, oil lamps were our source of light. Wood stove heated our house, root cellar was basically our cold storage. We stored ice in the winter, and wood in the summer. Never had a bank acct till I was 20.
To this day I've never had a sweat if the water or power went down.
Seems we were always PREPARED just in case. Again great post! ....................billytwohearts
Thanks :). Yes they are totally oblivious and I just shake my head when their end of the world crisis is that they can't connect their smartphone to WiFi or that the electricity goes out and their biggest concern is they are going to miss 'Gossip' on FaceBook. The priorities of those coming into the world, their complete lack of skill and interest in what made their predecessors get through and enjoy life is very concerning. I used to feel sorry for these people because when a real emergency happens they are going to suffer and suffer in the worst ways, but I have to prioritise my time on myself and on those that are open to prepping in the first place, I can't help everyone but maybe I can help some people.
Great post! MainePrepper is awesome I hope he comes back! I did the same thing got out pen and paper and wrote down what I needed. I really "woke up" in 2014 and I too have stopped watching TV. Here in America it's the same sad, depressing, racist, war torn, horrible stuff! I stick to YouTube and Vid.me!
I hope MainePrepper comes back too. I haven't bought his book yet but hope to at some point to help support him. I think he's probably ok financially but hoping him seeing his book still selling will make him happy :-) TV is ridiculous, they spend Billions trying to get people to watch it but they don't put up anything worth watching! Haha. I don't really spend much time on YouTube even to watch video's I mostly watch VidMe now. I just loath to be even on YouTube's website now because of their behaviour. Do you have a VidMe channel?
I do have Vidme it the same name mylilhomestead 😊 Do you have one or thinking of getting a channel?
Haha, I'm stupid. I was already following you there :)
😂 I just seen you were!
I looked and couldn't find yours. Yeah I'm on VidMe, it's been a far better experience so far on the few months I've been on there compared to the years I was on YouTube and got no support from them at all. The only thing that made YT worthwhile was the awesome community and subscribers.
I'm already following you 😂
I found out about prepping reading "Emergency" by Neil Strauss. One of those books that once you pick it up, you can't put it down. Always good to be prepared when SHTF.
Stay sharp, my friend. Cheers!
I'll make a note of that book and get round to reading it one day, thanks. Be safe and prepared friend.
I like how you talk about using your prepping for everyday emergencies- it doesn't have to be the end of the world to be prepared. There are plenty of scenarios other than the end of days....not that we shouldn't be prepared for that as well....
Thanks man. Yeah, I focus on prepping for things that simply can and do occur. Be safe and prepared friend.
Hi @geordieprepper, good to hear the backstory of a fellow UK prepper.
My journey started many years when I watched the original version of Terry Nation's Survivors on the BBC (back in the '70's). That set me on a lifetime journey.
My prepping had been ongoing but low key for many years. Then I read One Second After by William R. Forstchen a few years back. That really gave me a good kicking.
Since then I've ramped up several gears. I'm on a path now that blends homesteading and a quest for self-reliance with standard prepping.
Still a long, long way to go - just hope I get enough done before the S hits the F.
Hey man, nice to hear a bit about your journey too. I'm glad I found prepping, definitely a worthwhile and rewarding hobby but with a more serious aspect to it and it can be depended upon in emergencies. I too want to homestead eventually. I am currently laying in the groundwork to become self-reliant and as 'off grid' as I can be. Have a good weekend :)
@geordieprepper, I enjoy finding out how people in our community found their calling. Two thumbs up my friend!
Thanks friend.
Nice to hear the story of another prepper. Kudos for not funding the evil BBC.
Good meeting you earlier dude.
Steem on
Thanks man, same to you.
