Friedrich Nietzsche - a Writer, Philosoph?

Here comes the second edition of famous German Writers based on our Google Search. Suggested by @ikigai we cover today Friedrich Nietzsche a German philosopher, cultural critic, poet, philologist. Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche was born in October 15, 1844 - so like myself a fellow libra. He grew up in the Röcken, a town near Leipzig / Germany.

Friedrich became one of the most-influential modern thinkers. He tried to unmask the motives that underlie traditional Western religion, morality, and philosophy which affected generations of poets, writers, theologians, philosophers and psychologists. Friedrich thought through the consequences of the victory of the Enlightenment’s secularism, expressed in his famous quote that “God is dead,” in a way that influenced the work and thinking of many of Europe’s most-celebrated intellectuals after his death.

Friedrich Nietzsche as Writer

Being a talent in poetry and music it is no surprise he wrote a book related to Music. His first book in 1872 was called "Die Geburt der Tragödie aus dem Geiste der Musik / The Birth of Tragedy from the Spirit of Music)" marked his emancipation from classical scholarship. It was a dramatic theory and argued that Greek tragedy arose out of the fusion of Apollonian and Dionysian elements—the first representing measure, restraint, and harmony and the second representing unbridled passion. Friedrich also speculated that the Socratic rationalism and optimism meant he death of Greek tragedy. The book has created intense debates as well as heated controversy around classical scholarship and remains a classic in the history of aesthetics to this day.
