PRIDE LANDS

in #writing6 years ago

It was dark when she opened her eyes, the smell of wet soil filled her nose, a chilly wind made her shudder as her eyes were adapting to the darkness, until she finally could see clearly.

Her body was numb and cold, her bones were aching terribly.

“Strange,” she thought. She found herself in the woods, not knowing how she got there she started to move, and the odd feeling increased.

Something about her body just felt somewhat unusual, her hands were in touch with the soil, she was on all four.

Looking at the trees, they felt a bit higher than normal, she wasn't uncomfortable though.

Along the rustling leafs, her hearing caught faint sounds of chatter and ringing glass, that must be the town she lived in. Yet she didn't want to go back there, she went deeper in the woods instead.

She felt even stranger, the way her sight viewed her surroundings wasn't as it used to be.

Glancing around sharply she saw a river, rippling calmly midst of the night. She ran over to it, more like she leaped over in such speed she'd never felt before.

Hesitating as she reached the edge, she slowly peeked into the water's page. She saw a pair of neon green eyes staring back at her, reflecting the light of the silver crescent that dawned upon the place.

Her gasp of surprise was more of heavy groan, she leaned over to take a closer look at the black stripes on her forehead and shoulders, and the round ears on her head, the dark orange that dyed her body could be seen faintly under the few rays of the light.

Amused, she admired the brightness of her fangs, and the sharpness of her claws.

“This is not bad,” she would've said. But that only came out as a light growl.

She rose up and stood there at the edge, stared at the wide space that was covered in grass on the other side.

She decided.

Stepping back slowly and steadily, she lowered her head, until she deemed it rightly.

It started to rain, the deafening echo of the rain drops against the surface of the river sounded like a symphony of cheering for her.

Now! She dashed forward and jumped over the river, her orange fur glistened and sparkled as her long huge body formed a cloud of shadow above the water that quickly disappeared when she reached the solid ground.

Stopping there for a while, she inhaled the air deeply and then started to move forward.

Raising her head as the queen she felt she is, she roared to the world.

This land is hers now. That's what the loud roar claimed, and whoever breaks that law, her law, shall suffer the consequences.
