Old is gold - We have been hearing this since childhood, when I was a child, I used to keep hearing from my parents, aunts, and uncles that their days was like a golden era. As I grew up to be a young boy, I kept hearing the same, not from parents but all. There were lots of differences between the two generations - which is called the generation gap. Have you ever thought, why all keep saying olden days are the best, old music is the best, old schools and the way of teaching is the best, old houses are the best - there is a never-ending line to this?
When walking on the streets or in the hotels and restaurants, I used to hear old music played everywhere - though I did not like it at that time, I had to compromise with it. There were very few places where new songs and music was played. Maybe the music twenty years back was not so good or everyone loved old music, I did not understand. But today after thirty-five years I feel the same - I say olden days were the best, old music is good, Old schools were good - because today I see the how the standard of education in the school has gone down, tuition and tutorials become complusary. It seems without this one will not pass out and move ahead. As I said earlier there is a never ending line to these arguments as which period is best. Views may differ from person to person.
The generation gap is always building, and it has been building at an alarming rate. The generation of today has all the modern equipment and luxuries, and with the rapid change in the technology, the lifestyle in today's world has changed. Today's generation should consider themselves lucky as they have the advantage of being born in the mordern world.
Everything changes for good, but it is in our own hands, how we take it. The values and the respect for elders that I saw and learned from people of an old generation are the biggest assets, which the generation of today fails to understand. We all keep talking about the generation gap, but we have to change for the betterment and fit ourselves accordingly. For the new generation, the life has become a race in every step. They want to move fast and achieve everything as soon as possible. They don't have the patience to listen, get irritated at every small thing. They have their own choice and preferences. There were joint and big families seen everywhere, whereas today everyone prefers to stay away from their own blood.
It is right that the gap between the two generations will always be there, but one thing that the people of all generations should learn to do is - Give and take respect, Respect elders, Spread love, and above all pass on these values to the new generation. If all do the same at least love and respect for all will always exist.
@king3071!
Very well written.
Today's world is inclined towards virtual things(one example: video games instead of actual games).
Yes that is right, but we have to decide what is good for us.
“The children now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise.”
― Socrates
Yes, but they are children and we have to teach them, like how we were taught.
