OK, it is a month and a half until November. Fall colors, pumpkin spice in everything, Charlie Brown, not to mention the big one, Thanksgiving. What are writers thinking about right about now? Do I join in on NaNoWriMo this year or not? It is a big question. With all of the activity in the beginning of the holiday season, do we really want to throw in a challenge that will rake our brains, drain our coffee pots from holiday guests and isolate ourselves from the family we so love? Yep. We do it all the time. The challenge of writing 50,000 words in 30 days can be a mind bender but the idea is sound. A book in a month? Yes, it can be done. Since NaNoWriMo has started, there have been more authentic authors born and discovered than ever.
Yes, I am going to give it a go. I mean, I love to write but that camaraderie I get during these challenges is phenomenal! I don't care if you are a mediocre writer or a polished pro, you write with me and that is big.
Now, what to do? I just figured out what I will write about. Choose what your topic possibilities are. Do a little research now so you don't have to shuffle the entire research experience in with your 1600+ words a day. Of course, you will be researching again and again as the ideas start flowing but try to get a ground work going.
Next, let your family know what you are doing. Yes, I get those looks, too, but they need to know that sometimes you will need to be in that do-no-disturb mode so you can get those daily counts done.
The website has all kinds of nifty tricks and tips to get yourself going. You can find them at https://nanowrimo.org.
Good luck everyone!
I'm gearing up for it as well and dedicated my first Steemit post to that :) I know tons of authors who write a book every month, but I really don't feel like I'll be able to get there… Anyhow, we'll see!
