Books: The Shining by Stephen King.

Hello again esteemed community of Steemit, I return with another post about literature, this time on The Shining, by Stephen King, published in 1977. Stephen King is one of my favorite authors, from him I have read 12 books so far and there are several that I have in mind. Of all the works with which I have come across of this writer, The Shining was one of the ones that marked me the most and was my favorite for a long time.

The plot focuses on a family consisting of three members, Jack, Wendy and Danny Torrance, which after financial problems and Jack being recovering from his alcoholism, decide to take over the caretaker work at the Overlook Hotel, during the winter season. Time in which the accesses are obstructed with snow, but they need someone to stay in to make sure everything is in order by the time it reopens.

Jack is a frustrated writer with a family violence past due to his addiction, being the key point for his detoxification having fractured an arm to his son while repressing him for a simple childish act. Wendy is a woman of a fragile character who usually accepts her husband’s wishes and Danny is a quiet child, but who hides a huge power that he does not understand.

At the time of the interview and subsequent signing of the contract is that they let Jack know very vaguely some of the events that occurred in the hotel, but they do not tell him that strange events continue to happen, nor that the last family that stayed to take care of the hotel never came out.

When they arrive at their destination, Danny meets the hotel's chef, Dick Halloran, who coincidentally shares, although to a lesser degree, the gift called The Shining; and who, before leaving, warns him that he should never enter room 217 and that, in case of urgency, to call him using their unusual link.

It does not take long before the paranormal events begin to occur in the hotel; Danny is the one who takes the worst part because, with his gift, the hotel desires him, this being the time of the origin of the popular word REDRUM. This place seems to be inhabited by an entity that feeds on souls and especially people with extrasensory skills. In the past, there have been murders, suicides, massacres, being room 217 the favorite for most of these events and this entity becomes stronger with each event.

Something that in the book keeps you tied is the interaction that exists between the hotel and Danny, dark and disturbing dialogues that the adaptations to the cinema have not been able to capture, but that in my opinion are key to understand everything that happens around the plot.

The outcome is when Jack gives his will completely to the hotel and goes in search of the souls of his family to offer them in exchange for empty promises.

This novel, I assure you that it will literally keep you with your nose stuck between the pages; one cannot help to feel the desire of knowing what comes in the next chapter. I know it is a popularly known novel and that many may have seen the movies, but I assure you that this is one of the cases in which, if you have not read the novel, you cannot understand everything that happens.

This is all for this post and soon I will come back with another novel.

If you already read it, leave your opinion in the comments section, as well as if you want to comment on some opinions.

Until next time,
