It's surprising how blurry the picture of one's self can be. I have this friend, she's 17 years old, she's one of the kindest, most respectful, and loving person I've ever met. She's one of those people who finds it very difficult to be conflicting in any way. The "funny" thing is how she pictures herself: worthless.

She gets really anxious when she's surrounded by people, and she finds it hard to speak out; that has just built up a wall between her and the world. On the other hand, those who have had the chance to go through that wall, have found an amazingly beautiful person -in every single sense- behind it. We've found caring, we've found help, we've found love; we've found out we are just pretty lucky to have met her. That is how she really makes us feel. "Funny", right?!

My yoga teacher taught me once how people's perspectives work, she said they're like sitting at the movies: every person is looking at the same screen, but since everyone is in their own seat, everyone has their own point of view. Perspectives are determined by so many factors, it can be built up by things like how we were raised, how we were loved, who we spent time with, and so on... When my friend told me her own perspective of herself, I was surprised of how different it was from mine.

"No eres lo que tienes, sólo eres lo que das", this means you are not what you have, you are just what you give out. That's what I told her. Maybe she thinks badly about herself, but us, the ones who surround her just receive love, and we love her back. We appreciate her in many levels, and we are just thankful to know her.

Isn't that what she should see in herself?

That is something I must learn too.
