Okorosha is the name of a masquerade in my village.
I am from mbieri in imo state Nigeria.
Below is a brief history of my village

Mbieri is a town in southeastern Nigeria and one of the indigenous Igbo clans that conquered parts of the old Owerri province . Mbieri is in Mbaitoli council of
Imo State and it is the biggest of the original nine towns of Mbaitoli .Mbieri is blessed with abundant hydrocarbon that traversed the Obazu , Amaulu , Achi , Eziome and Umuagwu axis.
Mbieri town is made up of the following villages : Achi , Amankuta , Amaulu, Awo, Ebom , Eziome, Obazu , Obokwe , Ohohia , Ubakuru , Umuagwu , Umuahii , Umudagu , Umuduru , Umunjam , Umuobom , Umuomumu and Umuonyeali . Currently Mbieri is divided into the following autonomous communities ; Amaike -Mbieri , Awo- Mbieri , Ezi - Mbieri , Ihitte isi -Mbieri , Obazu Mbieri , Obi - Mbieri and Umueze - Mbieri. It has boundary with the following communities; Iho , Akabo and Amatta ( Ikeduru ) , Umuoba , Owalla , Orji , Amakohia , Akwakuma ( Uratta , Owerri North ) , Ubomiri , Ifakala , Orodo and Ogwa ( Mbaitoli ) .
It is about 8 km north of Owerri.

It is no doubt that, in my hometown some of my kinsmen and kinswomen are still into diabolic or cultural practices.
Some believe it is the culture and tradition of our people. Some say they can't abandon the ways of our ancestors because of civilization or Christianity. So some of them still practice it.

Last year during Christmas period, I was driving around my village and behold I saw the most scary and deadly masquerade ever, called okorosha.

Okorosha surfaces once in several years, its modus operandi is brutal and inhumane. It is the mother of all masquerade as per brutality.

Okorosha is a no go area, looking for whom to devour.

And many more....

In two months time we will be in Christmas season, and some of these masquerades will display once more.

Here is my question, what is your view on masquerades?

Hi, nice pictures you have here. We love our rich cultural heritage in Nigeria, always remember to reference your images, unless all images are yours. Keep hope alive. Keep steeming.

Thanks aplenty.

You welcome

I think he referenced using google. Thank you for pointing out anyways for others to learn.

Oh, my bad, didn't see that. Thanks for pointing that out.

Waw what a small word... am from Awo and we have the masquarade too. Too scary I hardly go out to watch it. Am glad I met a brother here. Thanks for sharing our beautiful culture. Beautiful culture promotes a place and festivals contribute to fun and entertainment.

What a small world indeed. So we are related to each other.
Wow!
Good to meet you.......

Haha... same here dear.

Wow, my Mom's best friend is from there :)
Never visited though. Lol

Really.
Wow!
Igbo kwenu.....

Really... little wonder how people can remember home in a far away land... well steemit is working...lol. come festivals you would really love it there @greenrun

We love steemit, we would one day find out I live opposite you. 😂

I feel that masquerade dances are a part of our heritage.
Once the pagan sentiments attached to them are removed, then I see no harm in them.

It's good that you're writing about our culture, I should try that.

Advice:

Tune down on the large headings a bit. I mean use smaller ones and only use the big ones for emphasis. Not on the whole work.

Well done dear.

Thanks dearest.
Acknowledged.

Knock knock :)
