Chapter 25

Selene’s mood darkened with each step as they returned to the office because she knew Darius knew about her visiting Jessica and she wondered how much trouble she was in.

Riley had apparently placated Darius because he was allowed to stand without help or restraint from Vladimir and when Falco and Selene returned, Riley gave Selene a knowing smirk and her heart sank again.

“Selene,” Darius said almost as soon as the door was closed. “I believe you have something to tell me.”

She knew what he was doing, she wondered what he wanted her to confess to but more to the point, she wondered what Riley had told him.

“I believe you are in possession of all the facts, Darius.”

Riley’s smirk slipped a notch as she used his real name; it was a name that Riley hadn’t heard many of his boss’s staff use before. It had always been Lord Grey.

“Perhaps I am but I’d like you to tell me anyway.”

“I’m not quite sure which facts you’d like to hear again, Darius. Is it the fact that sometimes, when I’m feeling particularly unhappy, I visit Jessica and when I leave again, I feel better than I did? Or perhaps you’d like me to tell you again that I’ve been screwing around with your knuckle-dragging barman – amongst others of course?” Selene spoke in a voice that was steady and nonchalant and made Riley’s smirk not only slip, but fall right off his face.

He didn’t know that his boss knew about them.

Darius nodded and turned to Riley.

“You didn’t tell me about that, did you?” he said and he leaned back in his chair to watch Riley squirm.

“So he didn’t tell you that he barters for gossip either?” Selene said and she realised that she took great delight in every movement on Riley’s face.

Her lover seemed to have acquired a nervous twitch and it was her turn to smirk.

She no longer cared if she was in trouble with Darius; Riley, the treacherous lying bastard, wasn’t getting away with dropping her in it without getting a taste of his own medicine.

“What was it you told me, Riley, darling? Oh, I remember: ‘I get bored behind the bar and the only time I get any action is when a Wolf comes in and wants information from me. I can barter the info and get a little payback for myself’. That’s what you told me.”

“I think we’ve found our security leak, Darius,” Vladimir said.

Riley’s skin prickled all along his spine and up his scalp as realisation that he was in deep shit hit with full-force.

Darius stood up and walked away from Riley and Vladimir and he stood close to Selene. Not so close that she would become nervous, but close enough that he would have the same vantage point as she had.

Darius gave a little tip of his head as he might if he were greeting some casual acquaintance and Vladimir took hold of Riley’s head in one large hand.

Riley tried to get away from the grip but Vladimir also took hold of one of his flailing arms and the watching Wolves heard the bones crackle as they snapped in his wrist.

Riley didn’t scream, he grunted at the pain, nothing more.

He was quite a tough character, brought up on the streets; it took more than a few broken bones to make him really yell.

Vladimir seemed to take that as a personal challenge and they heard other bones being broken just to see if he could entice him to give a more vocal, and therefore, more satisfying reaction to the pain.

Of course, eventually, he did succumb to the torture and he screamed as Vladimir forced him down to his knees.

It wasn’t the breaking of bones that made him scream, it was more that Vladimir made him lean on his broken wrists as he forced him to kneel on all fours on the plush carpet in front of Darius’s desk.

Darius mimed that the barman should crunch his fingers up into a loose fist and even though he knew that it would be agonising, Riley did so.

Vladimir placed one large, booted foot on the back of Riley’s hand and put pressure on slowly until a disgusting pop-crackling sound of the joints in his fingers gave way and then almost straight after, the familiar crackle-snap of the small and delicate bones in his hands.

The exercise was repeated on his right hand with as much care and attention to detail as before and Riley howled in agony.

Darius then placed something on the floor under Riley’s tear-streaked face. It was his own cell phone.

It had a picture on the screen and Riley looked at it and groaned.

You're a good writer.. can your book be purchased online or is it available at the bookshops? Thanks for putting this up and am going to read it from beginning to the end

Though it was a bit lengthy for me but I enjoyed thoroughly. Your use of rich and fascinating language has value added to strange but appealing fiction. Thank you.

This chapter was very tense, Vladimir severely broke Riley's bones. Although not immediately, but he made him scream. This is a small but interesting part, to which you prepared us :)
Thanks, read with interest and very pleased with this

you are a good writer.. i will wait for your next post

Your serialized novel are greatly attract me, thanks dear @michelle.gent

Riley thought he had rubbed it against his boss? How wrong!

The picture on the screen, Riley's and Selenes'? Whose? What

You are unfair @michelle.gent to leave it in this 'never-ending' a manner!!!

Two meetings going on, one almost done the other just begun. I wonder what picture was on Riley's phone screen? One of Red? Or Anton? With Riley being scapegoated, Selene and Falco may be off Darius's radar, but most likely not. It is going to be interesting what happens to Riley, I think somehow or another he will be saved, and healed by Selene, but the question will be how, and will Riley forgive her for the pain? But then again sometimes humes and Wolves need to die.

best of luck & advance congretulation @michelle.gent

This is another horror and interesting story. I like all the actions of this story.
It's creating some more interest about Riley. Let's see what happens next.
Thanks for writing such a wonderful story.
