in #writing8 years ago

Welcome to the fourth edition of the flash fiction #steemitwritingprompt challenge!

For those of you familiar with Reddit's WritingPrompts subreddit, you're going to feel right at home. Otherwise, the rules are simple:

1) I will submit a writing prompt in the form of a simple story idea or premise.

2) You all will write stories based on the prompt and submit them as comments on this post. It can be as long or short as you like. Entertainment is the goal!

3) We (the Steemit community) will upvote the best stories and on Steemit that means making money!

Even if you don't write fiction, it's a fantastic way to strengthen your creative idea muscles, become a better story teller, and a more well rounded writer!

And I promise to read every response, so at the very least, you have reader in me.

Today's Writing Prompt:

You wake up to the sound your wife screaming. She doesn't know you. Neither do you your kids.

Sort:

Then I went to the doctor and had a lobotomy, and now I don't know them either. The End.

I like the premise a lot. Could have been awesome as a longer story!

"This can't keep happening. Someone's going to get hurt."

"I know officer. I know."

"This is the third time we've been called about Mr. Black."

"Please. Just let us handle him."

I sat in the other room, listening to the conversation through the too thin walls. Listened to them talk about me. Use words like dangerous. Confused. Crazy. I couldn't quite complain that they were talking about me like I wasn't in the room, because technically, I wasn't.

I was left alone with my thoughts. The image of the woman I loved. My kids. My family. Afraid of me. How could they forget me? Me?

A knock at the door gave me a bit of warning before he walked in, and I felt a twisted storm inside of me on seeing him. Confusion. Betrayal. Jealousy. Guilt.

"Damian?" he greeted me.

"I told you, my name isn't Damian!" I protested for the millionth time. "My name is William Black!"

He sits down next to me, pain and concern in his eyes. He shakes his head. "No, man. I am."

This is awesome!
