On Saturday I watched a movie as I always do on weekends to break off that weekly stress. And I made it a point not to do anything related to fiction. I went for a true story, and the closest I could come across was Unbroken, a movie about World War II. A bitter sweet movie I would encourage everyone to watch to have a feel of the sad events of the war. And one thing I got curious about was America playing a key role in winning the war yet initially it had nothing to do with it. As we all know, Japan invaded America with a surprise attack it called different names; Hawaii Operation, Operation AI, Operation Z but one thing we know, this attack was completely uncalled for since the great nation was at peace.
It was the morning of December 7, 1941 when Japanese Warships successfully crossed the Western Pacific to Hawaii without being identified and damaged American battleships in a matter of minutes. Nearly half the American airplanes were damaged in a tragedy in which we saw more than three thousand American sailors losing their lives. This was a sad time in the history of America, a time that is reflected upon with much despair. And we can't leave such a historical event to pass without learning a lesson from it. Silence is often being regarded as a huge weapon in fights and this is what cost America the massive loss cast on it by Japan.
America clearly knew what was going on as Adolf Hitler was victimizing innocent people and it had chosen to go silent. Britain and France among it's close allies were at war with Germany, Japan with their allies who they could defeat without taking the war too far if they had joined the fight earlier. The American leaders thought not indulging in this war would prove how neutral they were and call off any attacks on them. A miscalculated step in the name of trying to play safe. This silence got them punished at the hands of a country that was less powerful than them. Silence helps in making the right decision before finally acting but choosing to be totally silent without taking action when something is going on is so Wrong. One year before his assasination, Martin Luther King mentioned in his speech to a group of clergy and the public that There comes a time when silence is betrayal.
Let's make it upon ourselves to make something right if we realise it's going wrong. No matter what your enemies and friends think, you'll be fighting for the truth. It's a lot better than having regrets of not taking action when you had a chance to do so. Many of us get to a level of having peaceful times throughout our entire lives, and when a situation comes calling for you to step in to avoid events from getting worse.. you are completely puzzled with the necessary steps to take at that moment. Let's have a side that's always ready to fight for what is right. The world owes none of us a good time for behaving well. However good you are, people around you will try to harm you to get away with a possession they want; It could be money, or luxuries or something else that will make them better than you. When you get to know that this is happening to your neighbor or friend, step in and take the necessary action. Call the police, grab a weapon and get into the fight, make an alarm for rescue.
With this, we shall fight crime amongst ourselves and stop sad tragedies from happening. We can surprisingly get to a level where the police doesn't have to step in to make things right in the community. Let's shun silence when things get difficult yet we can play a role in making them better.
