Mysterious end, @johnjgeddes! That prolepsi that the narrator does makes us place ourselves in a future full of dark and mysterious things. In particular, I have a lot of respect for these themes. I believe that on our life there must be many souls who still don't find their way and are wandering around, waiting their turn to leave for good. Before you leave this earthly world, perhaps you will find a way to contact people and tell them one last word, or in the worst case, invite them for company. Happy Halloween!
