The Strolling Lovers

The dense fog hangs low upon the darken earth as we walk along fingers entwined. Beads of moisture form the mystical mist form across our brows as the scuffing of our feet on the dusty dirt road keeps a quirky rhythm for our thoughts to follow. We know not what the morrow brings, but we know that the personification of perfection lies between us on this abandoned earthen passage of the deep south.

How many pairs of lovers has this land seen pass through the still of the night, hidden from the inquisitive gaze of the low-slug harvest moon by the ethereal fog enveloping us in the loving embrace of understanding? The barren, skeletal arms of the ancient oaks reach out to harvest the affection we share to clothe themselves with comforting memories until their green drapery returns as the sign of renewed life promised each spring. The Spanish moss hanging from the elbows and knuckles of the gnarled joints of these silent sentries appear as lacy kerchiefs to dab away the sorrow swelling in our eyes as we fight back the contemplation of the separation racing towards us with each lunge of Helios' chariot as it bring closer the amber glow upon the horizon.

All we know is now, all we have is now for the uncertainty will rise with the force of the coming dawn and we may never pass this way again.

The photo is so creepy, lol

Isn't is though?!? When I saw it on Pixabay I knew it needed to be central to a story of lovers and their impending separation. Thanks for taking the time to comment and for your support!

I love how you describe the trees and the moss. All we have is now and that is so very true. Awesome writtin once again!

Thank you so much. Something about the ominous low hanging trees in the south is inspiring!

I'm glad you came by, I've followed your writing for awhile and think you would be a good fit for the #steemitbloggers group. They just opened up for a few applications. If it's not your thing, then no pressure and no worries.

Oh cool, I will have a look at it. Thanks for sharing that with me ^_^

You crushed that papa. A nice deep piece with so much to think about. Oh I like the image. One can take as just before sunset with a nice warm fire to come or just before sunrise with sunshine coming. Well I suppose that either which way a wolf can come out of the dark and eat everyone

We musy ever be watchful of the willful wolf lying in wait! Thanks for the compliment and support!

Beautifully crafted @papacrusher.The description is sooo evocative!!!I wish I could write like that.I love how the written word has the ability to give rise to emotions and thats what your pieces always manage to do.

Thank you that was my intention to evoke emotions. I think that is why I fell in love with the written word at such a young age.
