Recently, I was hanging out with a couple of old friends from my childhood. We were all having a swell time as we recounted some of our fond childhood memories. Gradually and eventually, this discourse shifted to some of the silly beliefs that filled our infant hearts. The banter was priceless and hilarious as we each took turns in recounting our stories.
For me, as a kid, I believed birds belonged to heaven while houseflies were wing creatures of hell, haha. You wouldn’t blame me; houseflies are quite ugly and annoying. Hold on, I’m not done, every night I was convinced both creatures would retire to their respective homes.
I strongly believed there was a doorway that led to heaven. I couldn’t care less about the doorway to hell. When you look up to the sky and you slowly tilt your head lower, it appears the sky is touching the earth somewhere far away. I only needed to discover the point – the doorway!
During a family trip to the village, I found the perfect place to hatch my plan – finding the doorway.
My take off point was a mildly rough hilly road of red soil. Standing atop, I looked down the road and sighted where I firmly believed was the secret doorway to heaven, a secret only known by birds. So I began, stride after stride, the longer I walked, the farther my destination appeared. Perhaps someone was playing tricks, could it be the birds hovering in the sky; sky police I reckoned. I decided to run but I didn’t fare any better.
“What is your name?” I heard a man ask me, I was obviously lost and confused. He returned me to my village after I identified myself.
So guys, don’t be shy, share your childhood illusions with us. We promise not to laugh………………too much.
