Trust me you’re not supposed to get over him or her just like that. You’re not suppose to wake up one morning and think deeply about them again. Don't forget you're human. And there will be days when all that runs through your mind is memories. Followed by days where you can barely kick a day without saying their name. Weeks will pass definitely pass.
Of course there will be an achy hurtful hole in the center of your chest. You’ll melt under its weight. You’ll ignore it. You’ll patch it with people, with time, with laughter, with thoughts, with times when you do workout alone. Seconds, minutes, hours, weeks, months, years, decades, centuries will pass. You’ll surely be comfortable sitting at restaurants, at coffee shops without any memories about them. You’ll find peace at putting aside the chains they bought you, the clothes they found at that fleet market that fit so perfectly. You’ll wonder where they are—but out of nostalgia, not regret.
Maybe you’ll still have little things that remind you of their smell, their kiss, their touch. It’s okay to reminisce on them, for a moment, for a while. Some days you’ll get wrapped up in what used to be. You’ll scan through photos of the two of you, arm-in-arm. You’ll let your mind wander, let it hurt all over again.
You could even drive by the old spots where you used to picnic and lay under the stars to carve your initials and catch some trips. But, maybe you won’t. Maybe you’ll cry. But maybe, through your tears, you’ll smile because everything has become what it was meant to. And you’re finally learning to let go.
Time will go by, each day becoming less long and less painful, each moment suddenly breathing joy. And this will make you forget their absence. They definitely could be their presence within yourself that fills the room. Maybe there’s someone else’s presence, someone else’s arms around your shoulders, making you feel at home. It's all okay
You will tell this new soul the stories of who you used to love. You will look happily at old messages then finally have the strength to delete them. You will store the trinkets and gifts and notes in a box under your bed. And it will collect dust as you happily walk in a new direction.
All this will have happened to you just so you could have something profound and sexy to tell. You'll definitely be fine in the end.
With love from Asari.
