Good morning all. Its your girl @Princess Julius and today I'd be writing on the different types of human behaviour. But before I jump into the types of human behaviour, let me give a definition of Behaviour.

Coom 1986 defined behavior as any activity or action of a living organism manifested consciously or unconsciously which can be observed directly or indirectly.

According to English dictionary, Behaviour can be defined as human conduct relative to social norms.

Basically there are two types of behaviour namely:

  • Overt and
  • Covert.
But for the sake of knowledge I will discuss other types of behaviours.
  1. Overt Behavior: This includes all such activity or actions of living organisms that can be observed directly by one person as such actionsmanifeat. E.g of Overt behaviours are sleeping, snoring, eating, running, laughing, singing, cooking, dancing, crying and our assessment of others are our interactions with them which are based on Overt behavior.

  2. Covert Behavior: includes internal, physiological process and activities of individuals that can't be seen openly or observed directly merely by looking except by the use of special instruments or technique. E.g dreaming, thinking, blood pressure, digesting process, changes in your pulse rate etc.

  3. Genetically Inherited Behaviour: This includes all such behaviour that are transferred from parents to their offspring through genetic process and such behaviors traits that are particular to people of the same biological process.

  4. Socially Acquired Behavior:
These are behavior patterns that are acquired either consciously or unconsciously by interacting with people from different cultural background. This also include such behavior developed from the process of learning/socialization. E.g we develop language skill by interacting with people that speak that very language.

Behaviour can aslo be classified into two:

  • Formal and
  • Informal.

Formal behaviour are behavioral patterns that follows certain laid down principles aimed at achieving a particular goal or objectives. E.g our behaviour at working or learning situations are usually formal in behavior. These aspects of behaviours studies within business management and it is known and referred to Organizational Behaviour.

Informal Behaviour includes those behaviours that are expressed as we interact with others or relate with our social environment casually. This behavior is said to be informal when it does not follow laid down rules and principles.
