Writing feels good... write down as you get bored.

If you are a person who is more interested in writing and expressing yourself in such a way than the people around you, you know how relaxing, clarifying and enriching this habit is. Even in the middle of the day, you may still feel anxious when you are still in office and can not wait to go home and continue writing. Ideas can flow constantly in your head and it can be difficult to trace all of them. You may be enjoying the writing itself. What you are not aware of is that there are many medical benefits of writing.

Benefits of writing

New Zealand researchers have conducted a biopsy study among healthy elderly people aged between 64 and 97 years. The control group was asked to write as much as possible about the actual daily activities or the situation of the room they were in. The experiment group was instructed to write about their traumatic, upsetting personal experiences from the past. Both groups wrote 20 minutes in a row for three days. Then, in order to allow negative emotions by recalling sad events in turn, scientists delayed the biopsy two weeks.

Subsequently, a biopsy was performed and the subjects continued to be monitored for 21 days to monitor healing. Seventy-six percent of the experimental group is cured in 11 days. The number of recovered from the control group during the same period was only 42 percent.

The most important of these questions was how reflective writing was so helpful in such a short period of time.

Emotional expression reduces the level of stress in writing

From the writers of the work, Elizabeth Broadbent emphasizes that writing about a deeply influential and distressing event allows them to think more emotionally empathically, which in turn reduces the stress surrounding the events.

Regardless of their medical condition, improvement of their health level was observed

The health benefits of writing are not limited to this research. Professor of Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. James Pennebaker has been the focus of his editorial writings for nearly 20 years. Dr. Pennebaker was the first to try to bring this methodology to the public and to bring it into practice. Dr. Pennebaker and his team have difficulty in limiting the benefits of expressive writing.

People who express themselves by typing have less problems with their illness and are recovering more quickly.

Patients with arthritis, people suffering from HIV / AIDS, cancer, asthma and cystic fibrosis record great improvements when they spend 15-20 minutes a day writing. They can organize their thoughts better and get rid of the past more easily.

It has been repeatedly asked by Dr. Pennebaker why this approach works so well. In an interview, he said, "Emotional uprisings touch every part of our life ... Writing helps us to focus and organize our experience."

Some of this information may seem too good to be true. Can writing about your personal deep feelings and thoughts really change the reaction your body gives to disease or insufficiency? The ear is incredible, even a little magical, but the evidence is clear and this mental-emotional therapy has improved people's lives since 1999.

Suggestions based on Dr James Pennebaker's methodology:

  • Write something deep, personal and critical emotional,
  • Summer for 20 minutes without stopping,
  • Continue this for 5 days without interruption.

With the reflexive writing power, you will feel less stressed, more peaceful with your past, and even physically much stronger. Writing is not just a pleasant activity, it can change your welfare level!
