All art requires a certain level of confidence and belief in yourself, and it’s this fact that holds so many people back! When you hear someone say they can’t sing, or they are not creative, or they hate art, what they are truly saying is that they don’t want to put themselves out there. It is an extremely vulnerable experience to pour yourself into an artistic creation and then share it with the world! This is the beauty of art, and it’s also the same thing that hold so many ‘non-artistic’ people back.
Guess what?! You have value. You have something to share with the world that nobody else has. You are unique. You can do it. If you allow yourself to create and be vulnerable some amazing things can happen.
Why do you think there are so many people singing in the shower? Because we all want to create and many of us have an innate drive make music, but 99% of people keep their musical creations to the shower where nobody can hear them! It’s a tragedy that so much great art is almost literally going down the drain (lol)! Singing is a vulnerable experience just like painting, performance art, composing, #blogging and all other forms of artistic expression. The funny thing is that what holds us back is the same thing that can take your artistic career to the next level - EVERY audience LOVES vulnerability. Do you think Bob Dylan had the best voice of his generation? Absolutely not. The dude sounds like he’s half way through eating a bag of skittles when he sings. So why is he one of the most pivotal artists of his generation? Because he was vulnerable. It doesn’t matter that his voice was not the greatest, nobody sang with as much confidence as him. And he had a message to share! Be confident in your message, be confident in your voice even if it’s….unique. Be confident. Be vulnerable. Put yourself out there. Great things will happen.
#Steemit is an epic revolution because it is all about creation and putting yourself out there. It takes confidence to put your ideas down on paper and it takes vulnerability to share it with the world. What people don’t understand is that everyone is unique and everyone has value. You simply need to take the time to sit down, create, and believe in yourself enough to publish it to the world.
I want to quickly share a personal story and hopefully some motivation on this topic – As a child I had a very interesting and high-pitched voice and had trouble pronouncing many words, to the point where I had to be taken out of class each day for speech lessons. As I grew up my voice got a little bit lower but it is still extremely unique (it’s weird. lol). For many people aspiring to be #musicians this would be a source of failure or angst. Fast forward 10 years and I’m a studio musician coaching artists on their tone, lyrics, and delivery. WTF?! The kid that couldn’t pronounce words and sounded like Kermit the frog works with hip hop musicians! How did this happen? Belief, vulnerability, confidence, and PRACTICE. Great things happen when you say FUCK IT to the world and what you believe it expects from you.
No excuses… Let’s go make some #art
