Recently featured in my (@curie - voted!) Lady Boom Steem Powered Story, the Hunter's Handgonne is a firearm commonly used in fighting monsters.
Having more in common with a sawed-off shotgun than a handgun, these powerful firearms pack a punch of considerable stopping power - the kind of stopping power you need when, say, a werewolf is charging you and you have enough time for a single shot.
Hunter's Handgonnes have two separate barrels, so they can fire two shots each before they need to be reloaded. Thanks to their simplistic design, they can be loaded with a variety of ammunition types.
Their recoil, however, is powerful and their effective range relatively short. That's why they're mostly used as a brutal close- to medium-range combat weapon.
In Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition terms, they would probably look like this:
Weapon: Hunter's Handgonne
Cost: 130gp
Damage: 2d6 Piercing
Weight: 4lb.
Properties: Ammunition (range 20/40), Loading, Reload 2
In the universe of my Steem Powered Stories, these firearms are used by a guild of militant mercenaries, and are the trademark of Iorva - also known as the Lady Boom!
