Hello, I'm baaack, in this opportunity I want to talk a little about my career, Information Sciences, as I had announced in my previous publication. I will try to be as concrete and explicit as possible, since I would like many people to have a basic knowledge about it.
Throughout my career, I met so many people who had the same question, What is Information Sciences? Well, after 4 years there are still people around me who keep asking the same thing, sometimes it's a bit frustrating and that's why I want to teach you through this post, and for those who do know what it is about, I would love to know your opinion.
Now, answering this question, let's start with one of the first definitions, which appears in the congress of 1961-1962 known in the Georgia Institute of Technology was defined by Taylor as:
“The science that investigates the properties and behavior of information, the forces that govern its flow, and the means to process them for optimal access and use. The process includes the generation, dissemination, collection, organization, storage, retrieval, interpretation and Use of information. The subject is derived or related to mathematics, linguistics, psychology, computer technology, operations research, graphic arts, communication, bibliotecology, administration and some other fields.” (p.9)
In relation to the subject, this science throughout history has been defined by many authors (of which it could be speaking in later posts), some see it as a discipline, others as science, but all agree in its main objective, that It refers directly to the study of everything related to information, the behavior of users (the name given to people in different information centers) when it comes to searching and receiving, storage, recovery, conservation, organization and finally dissemination.
I could continue talking about this wonderful Science, but I don't want to exhaust you with so much information in a single post, for that reason, we will be breaking down all these elements little by little, I hope to receive comments and questions about the topic and answer you as soon as possible.
I hope you liked it.
See you soon, your tenant, Sol.
