Styrofoam, The Perennial Trash !!

in #writing8 years ago (edited)

Reminds me of a mountain climbing when one member there that bring food to be contained styrofoam. Senior who knows, a direct ban and ordered to replace the container. He said, a lover of nature should not carry styrofoam because he is immortal garbage. Styrofoam waste can never be unraveled.

However styrofoam already plural we find use. Styrofoam is widely used starting on packaging of electronic items to a food packaging.

Styrofoam is often used as wrappers for being able to prevent leakage and is able to maintain its shape when held. In addition, the material is also able to retain heat and cold but still comfortable to hold. They have a mild make styrofoam portability. Food was stored there also remain fresh and intact. Not only that, reasons for choosing styrofoam as food packaging materials especially for the packaging costs are cheap.

With all the benefits of that, styrofoam is now the primary choice in food wrapping. Ranging from fast food restaurants, merchants on the street, to the various events and activities, styrofoam is often a choice.

But behind the advantage that, styrofoam turned out to be speaking for health. Styrofoam components (benzene, carsinogen, and styrene) can cause damage to the spinal marrow, causing anemia and reduce the production of red blood cells to increase the risk of cancer. This component is easily detached when styrofoam contact with heat, fats or oils.

In addition to harmful to the body, sterefoam is harmful to the environment. If the plastic waste takes up to 500 years to decompose in the soil, styrofoam it can never be unraveled. So pack Styrofoam waste in the soil will remain on its shape, does not change, let alone destroyed up at any time, possibly until the apocalypse arrives.

With the amount of Styrofoam that we use in a day, multiplied by the number of Earth's population, multiplied by the number of days, we can imagine how much Styrofoam waste which will then accumulate contaminate soil, water and sea on earth. With various chemical ingredients contained in it, how many organisms earth who will receive the impact ? With our current consumption of Styrofoam waste, it could be tens of years to come, the earth turns into mainland styrofoam.

When this has been found styrofoam called Oxodegradable Polystyrene, which he says are more environmentally friendly. Styrofoam this type have been given additional materials that can decompose oxium although take up to 4 years.

But certainly we all understand that even though we actually have to pay very expensive with the increasing number of waste piles perennial that will not decompose along with the use of the said stryofom practical and inexpensive. Will we pass the "earth styrofoam" on our grandchildren?

Thanks for reading, may be useful for all of us and can make us aware of the importance of maintaining the earth for our future and our children, and don't forget to :

Hello @teukufadzrin,

Thank you for this informational post.

Styrofoam is a tough issue. As you point out, it's harmful to both the environment and our bodies, but it's also so useful!

I drink a fair amount of coffee at Dunkin Donuts and always cringe at their heavy use of styrofoam. It's time for a change!

hello @loki802
yes i think so too, it's the time change, I hope with this post, there are people out there also woke up and joined to make changes to look for safer materials to nature and to our body, and can be more helpful than styrofoam.

ya styrofoam is evil just like onions and the powers that be. i like the post, but its funny, cuz ive seen the aftermath of "green" protestors. its brutal they just leave a bunch of garbage where ever they were protesting, its pretty disgusting really. but I try not to buy goods with styrofoam packaging cuz I knew how long it took to biodegrade, but now thanks to your article I know how bad it is for your health.

thanks!

hahaha, yes thank you, I hope my post can be useful in the interests of us all. :)
