RE: The complexities of being a self-published author

in #writing8 years ago (edited)

Thank you for sharing your experience and congrats on having the courage to decide to pursue what you love.
I have been thinking to become a writer and motivational coach myself. I started looking around and I admit it kinda looked bleak.
If it is any help, I suggest that you keep going and not give up. But probably you may want to think seriously to start with having a publisher that will estimate your work and do the marketing for you (while you work on increasing your own marketing knowledge and skills). Use your best manuscript for that. This experience will have many advantages among which you will get you a push start to catch the attention and have a place in reader's minds. You can then use that publicity when you move to self-publishing since you will be known and sought out.
Good luck :)

Thank you!
I have actually been looking at this avenue myself.
It's strange though, I've had mix reviews about this. Some say to start as a self-publisher, others say to go with a publisher!
I think I need to do a bit of research and look into what to expect from those who have done it.
