Yanni Chryssomallis (Γιάννης Χρυσομάλλης, Giannis Chrysomallis in Greek, November 14th 1954, Kalamata, Greece) is a Greek pianist and composer, who brings together the orchestral, instrumental and lyrical genres in his compositions and performances.

As a child he liked to play the piano, the violin and the trumpet, although he never took lessons for these instruments and did not know how to read music either. In his spare time he played songs of the moment for his family. He was a good swimmer, he even beat a national record in 50 meters freestyle, in Greece. In 1973, at 18 years of age, Yanni traveled to the United States to study psychology at the University of Minnesota. While studying, Yanni played in public with the Chameleon group, where he met the excellent drummer Charlie Adams. With Chameleon they had a modest commercial success, playing in towns in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois and South Dakota. Finally he graduated in that discipline and obtained a degree.

As a psychologist he worked on Sigmund Freud, who is considered an admirer. Immediately after graduating, he tried to make a career in music, although he could not read music and had not had formal music education.

Using his own musical notation, he began to write his own original songs. With Chameleon they published several discs, of little commercial success. Finally Yanni got tired of Rock and Pop, and began to focus on his solo career, playing the keyboards. In the late eighties he moved to Los Angeles, where he formed a small group with drummer Charlie Adams and John Tesh.

His music has been described as New Age, although he prefers to call it "Contemporary Instrumental." It has been considered with Mozart Effect properties. His compositions also include romantic ballads. In 1992 he released the album Dare to Dream, whose song Aria was nominated for a Grammy and popularized in a commercial advertisement for British Airways. His music was also used in the movie I Love You Perfect. His music, of instrumental and melodic character is of an orchestral type. His themes have been used as soundtracks for cinema, television, sports tournaments, theater and the Olympic Games.
