Of Flowers & Hoverflies on a Lazy Day

Today is just another lazy day for me (although not literally) as I'm still trying to get back to my equilibrium. The body feels heavy, legs wobbly and eyes sleepy, I managed to empty the laundry basket this whole morning. Whites, blacks, colored, gazillion socks (that's an exaggeration), and what else were piled up during the wake and I just had to clear them away so I could breathe a little better.

Then I took the time to bask under the sun afterward and there I met two lovely creatures, enjoying the fragrance and nectar of the Brassica nigra flowers outside.

With no rains and mostly breeze on some days, it seems the dry season is here to stay. Along with it, the flowers bloom and hoverflies abound.

Dasysyrphus albostriatus, according to GL, are often found on warm spring days in April and May. That makes sense (although we don't have a spring season in the country). The yellow bars at the back complemented the black body and head. And what are the odds that they also love the cheerful colors of the field mustard flowers!

Although I doubt they were particular about the colors so maybe it was just a coincidence? Anyway, it was too hot that without a hat or even a pair of sunglasses to shield my head and eyes of the scorching sunlight, my snapshots are a bit poor.

I went in for an umbrella and when I returned, the hoverflies were gone and so as the white butterfly hovering around the yellow blooms. There are more buds yet to open so maybe they will come again soon and hopefully, I'd be there to meet them.

My eyes lit up on seeing them, although this wasn't the first time. For some unknown reason, yellow flowers tend to make me feel lighter. That gave me a thought! Except for the St John's Wort, I have not grown plants that produce yellow blooms, so maybe it's time to do so. I'd love some daisies, please! Dahlias would be appreciated, and sunflowers too!
