I know what you're thinking: "Are you kidding me?"
Honestly, I wish I was. However, Pope Francis of the Catholic Church claims that yoga in a "spiritual sense" DOES NOT bring you closer to God. Pope Francis claims that faithful Catholics are allowed to participate in the exercise, but should not participate with the "spiritual" aspects that are associated with yoga. If you are in search of a "zen-like peace" from practicing yoga, then you are most definitely seeking for peace from the wrong source.
But wait... there's more.
Even Catholic Exorcists are claiming that yoga may be a tool of Satan. They claim that a common mantra repeated in the practice of yoga is "So'ham", which means "I am the universal self". Focusing on yourself rather than the Lord, thy God,. They remind us of what Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI once said:
"Christian prayer... flees from impersonal techniques or from concentrating on oneself, which can create a kind of rut, imprisoning the person praying in a spiritual privatism which is incapable of a free openness to the transcendental God."
