1st branch - Yama
What are they?
The yama are universal rules that moderate our relations with the outside world
How many?
They are 5:
• Ahimsa (nonviolence)
• Satya (real grip)
• Asteya (do not steal)
• Brahmacharya (continence)
• Aparigraha (not accumulate)
Why are they important?
Through the respect of this code of conduct the practitioner establishes a harmonious relationship with what surrounds him and eliminates the impurities of the mind. Emotions such as violence, anger, falsehood, greed, lust and greed are unhealthy emotions and generate continual conflicts within the individual. The psychological and emotional balance is fundamental to control the constant turbulence of the mind. Without this no progress in the way of yoga can be realized. All yama must be respected in thoughts, words and actions
