Post-Surf Yoga: Freestyle Vinyasa Flow

Hey beautiful people!

Its been a while since i've had the filmed any of my yoga practice, and to be honest its not something i really think about beforehand, instead i just do it and usually think afterwards - "oh, i could have probably filmed and shared that" (with whoever would be interested of course!)

This practice was a very casual flow (as opposed to dynamic) where i focused mainly on flexibility though the hamstrings as well as releasing tension and increasing blood flow across the shoulders and back - this is the main area of workload when you surf.

The prime reason i opted for this style of yoga was because i was completely, in a word, NAKERD! The last week we have had cranking surf here in west oz, and after another 3 hour surf session from earlier in the day i wasn't really feeling the need to push my body any more!

I had a rough idea of what i wanted to do and just let the poses come naturally. The stretches on the buttocks (pigeon pose) and lower hamstrings (variation of half monkey pose) were held for a bit longer to allow the fascia to stretch out a bit more - and it feels REALLY good!

If you have just started surfing, you especially will feel more tension and soreness in these areas, sometimes even if you are a regular at the gym. This is because a lot of muscles used for surfing aren't used in everyday activities (or worked at the gym) so to go from nothing to consistently paddling can really put them into overload. It is always worth having a good stretch later on or before bed to aide recovery, and to keep the spagetti arms at bay if its pumping the day after!

Anyway, this is just a 40 minute practice condensed into a video less than 2 minutes. Hoping to share some inspiration with you legends!

Awesome, you def need some yoga especially after surfing. Where do you typically go surfing? I'm down here in San Diego, and you'll usually find me at Blacks Beach.
