So, I'm assuming that this change is Youtubes ill-conceived way of trying to control the influx of negative content (bad-taste pranks/extremely dark humor/general illegal content/fakenews and so on). However, this change is going to hurt the very people that they should try and support. And if my theory for the reason of this change is wrong, then YouTube is simply making the situation even worse.
My reason for thinking this? Simple - not everyone is like you (xr-hammergaming) you post because you enjoy it and want to cater to your community. I'd say you very firmly fit into the group of people that YT should be on their knees begging to stay. However, a large number of people are pulled towards Youtube from the success stories of the more famous content creators, and they feel that YT is a get-rich-quick method, and so they create content that will pull as many views/comments/engagement as possible.
This is where the problem comes from, the content that pulls the most views and subscribers are quite often the ones that have content that is not suited for advertisers. For example, check out some of the harmful 'prank' channels, neo-nazi channels, fakenews channels, (the more crazy) conspiracy theory channels and so on - these channels regularly have over 1000 subscribers, and they won't be affected by this change, they'll still be making money from YT.
Even worse, look at the Logan Paul case from very recently. As I'm sure you're aware he posted the video of the suicide victim and was (in very bad taste) making disrespectful and disgusting jokes about it. Youtubes course of action? Remove him from the Preferred-Ads program, BUT he is still monetized through the normal ads.
Based on the above points, I really feel that this change is seriously bad, and I cannot support it.
YouTube has a problem, that's for sure. Their (admirably) stance on free-speech and freedom of expression is under attack by those that want to abuse it. But this is not the way to do it, it's alienating people who they should be promoting.
(Just a note, this is not a salty rant by me, I'm not affected by this change. I simply do not see the justice of punishing original, good quality, up and coming content creators because YT is under attack for the actions of their 'stars')
Great point of view. My opinions had nothing to do with the existing channel crisis going on over at Youtube. Just the influx of newer users only caring for money. I do feel for the small creators that will struggle but If they continue as they were doing then they should eventually hit the threshold. I am one of these small creators after all. Maybe I look at things through rose tinted glasses because, as you say I post because I enjoy doing It and I forgot not everyone posts videos for this reason. But aren't these the kind of creators we want on Youtube. When I watch peoples videos I can hear It the voice of those who enjoy doing what they love and that's what Youtube should be about.
I for one don't think that the new Youtube changes and the Logan Paul situation are related. Monetization issues have been around for a while with many complaining that they haven't been monetized yet after waiting around for months and I do believe personally that Youtube had this In the works way longer than the Logan Paul situation and people are trying to connect the two when In fact there Is no connection. I may be wrong.
Yes, there are many of awful channels that won't be affected by this and continue to make money on videos which aren't family friendly. I think Youtube needs to deal with these kinds of channels In a different manner. Especially Logan Paul, Youtube has failed Its viewers In not acting on the situation.
The whole Logan Paul situation Is disgusting and I think his channel should get taken down, that Is a big issue with Youtube. There are loads of 'bad' channels on youtube who are already over the threshold and won't be affected. I don't know why Youtube allows this, I have no answers for this.
But I do hope that the new changes will mean that maybe Youtube will spend more time checking the content that channels put out. Although they need to sift through the existing channels first, starting with the 'stars'.
I don't always manage to put Into words exactly how I feel. But I tried my best, It took me a while to respond because of this. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
