Google Maps, Google Translate, YouTube.... Not the first or last bad decision Google has made with their products... They want people to use better alternatives if available because they don't have enough staff to moderate user contributions... It's like the literal "WTF" in Google Translate when you entered specific source text that had nothing to do with "WTF"... Some names were also translated to non-sense... Apparently some local cat was large contributor to Google Maps, before they cleared the associated metadata and restarted the map data collection.

Ha, could be... it has sure seemed that way.
It's a constant battle between Google and Microsoft... It's no secret that Microsoft has a lot to do with what happens on sites like Facebook. I think Mozilla already lost the battle with Google as their products have had major issues lately and that means people use them only if they have no other choice. Thunderbird is still an exception as there is no desktop e-mail client from Google.
