‘This will not go well’: YouTube cracks down on pundits & journalists after policy change

in #youtube6 years ago (edited)

Minutes after announcing a new policy clamping down on “hateful” and “supremacist” videos, YouTube got to work banning, demonetizing, or otherwise hiding videos from conservatives, journalists, and even black metal musicians.

The Google subsidiary updated its “hateful content” policies on Wednesday, announcing the clampdown in a blog post. The company said that from now on it will be “specifically prohibiting videos alleging that a group is superior in order to justify discrimination, segregation or exclusion.” Other videos that don’t strictly violate the site’s rules - including those promoting phony science or conspiracy theories - will be subject to demonetization, and other measures to restrict their viewership.

Orwellian in theory? In practice, too. YouTube didn’t wait long before wielding the ban-hammer with glee.

I hope you win!

They started with us a couple of years ago: https://www.syrianews.cc/youtube-channel-deleted/
I managed to find some of my videos on the old laptop, some others were shared by other channels so I had to steal my own work from them! But sadly most of the library is gone.

Nobody should depend on 3rd party, we learned this lesson the very hard way.

For online storage you can use https://mega.nz, their free plan gives you 50 GB, you can upgrade it, it's good to keep copies of your work.

I'm using Bitchute for streaming videos online, and bought a plan from jetpack by 'Automattic', the developers of content management system WordPress, their premium plan includes uploading and streaming videos.

Sadly, Dtube never worked for me, it works perfectly the first couple of weeks then videos stop loading.

Try 3speak.online. It's a new platform built on STEEM and works way better than dtube. They are specifically looking for people with big followings that have been targeted in other media's.

Resteemed by @resteembot! Good Luck!
Check @resteembot's introduction post or the other great posts I already resteemed.

Looks like Vox sponsored NBC is going to help YouTube eat itself from the inside and turn it into a digital TV station. Looks primed for disruption! blockchain projects are seeing the chinks in the armour its only a matter of time

I can't believe that they don't have a specific policy for simply disabling links...or apparently even the capability. Disabling all links on someone's vids and even censoring might be a horrible repercussion for hate speech or other violations.

In regards to Steven Crowder, bullying someone in regards to their sexuality and nationality is clearly not acceptable...and it probably was hate speech. They kinda messed up saying that it wasn't though. There are a limited number of ads on the platform as well. I don't see why someone contributing to bullying on the service should be one of those to profit from it.

But in regards to the greater matter, I should have realized that YouTube would use their changes to just carpet bomb everyone. YouTube seems to be incapable of intelligent careful action. I think that perhaps they likely have a bunch of different content "police" that don't necessarily communicate well, and clearly don't arrive at opinions based on committee or anything like that. They also seem to possibly have quite a few people that are poorly trained and do not understand the cultural significance of what they're policing.

It should likely require more than just one idiot to decide to ban someone. For some reason every time they go through these sorts of bans, they always seem to catch journalists and innocents. What idiot bans a journalist for reporting on something? Sure, I can understand maybe a Fox news correspondent for making one of their horrible comments, but not an actual journalist. And what idiot gave that idiot the power to ban someone under their sole discretion?

They should have a number of people flagging things for possible demonetization, and then more highly trained people determining if it should be demonetized, and then passing it up for possibly disabling the video, and then possibly passing it up to another group for banning.

Censorship is rampant, it's time for dtube to rise!

Let's call it what it is, this is bypassing all nations governments and installing a social credit system where google has become the socialist dictator. If they can select who gets paid and who doesn't and what the public are allowed to see how is this any different to any other socialist regime?

This is one world government run without accountability from the shadows.
