Good for Steemit? YouTube Will Censor Non-Rulebreaking Content, Manipulate Search Results, And Work With ADL

in #youtube7 years ago

Content creators on YouTube who follow all of the site’s rules may still face censorship by the platform, under new plans announced by Google.

According to a post on YouTube’s official blog, videos will now be subject to the rule of the mob. If enough users flag a video as “hate speech” or “violent extremism,” YouTube may impose restrictions on the content even if it breaks none of the platform’s rules.

"We’ll soon be applying tougher treatment to videos that aren’t illegal but have been flagged by users as potential violations of our policies on hate speech and violent extremism. If we find that these videos don’t violate our policies but contain controversial religious or supremacist content, they will be placed in a limited state. The videos will remain on YouTube behind an interstitial, won’t be recommended, won’t be monetized, and won’t have key features including comments, suggested videos, and likes."

This has the potential for abuse written all over it. With gangs of haters(probably mostly liberal snowflakes) going around YouTube and flagging the crap out of anything they disagree with or find offensive. We already know YouTube does not support the 2nd amendment and free speech with the way it has treated gun enthusiast and real journalism by demonetizing their videos.

While this sucks for content creators on YouTube I see this as a bonus for Steemit because it's a beacon of light in the censorship and fake news wars on the internet. This new policy will only make people look else where beside YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, etc in search of a place that won't censor their content and with a little luck and some word of mouth advertising I think they should have no problem stumbling onto the Steemit platform.

All we need now is a way to upload videos for free and Steemit will be serious competition for the freedom hating platform called Youtube.

This is very good for SteemIt. People are already tired of the censorship trolls on FB and YouTube. The same thing CAN happen on SteemIt, with flagging posts. However, there is no central "authority" here to prevent one groups' activities or promote a different groups activities; it's all based on money & steem power - and the consensus of the community. Whales will have a big role here - but only if that's the role they want to fill. Overall, yes, this is going to be good for the growth of our platform. Google, YouTube, and FaceBook are now their own worst enemies - they'll be chasing out a large part of the market and creating their own "fake"/one-sided communities which deny the free speech of anyone who dissents or does not accept their own ideas.

Upvoted and Resteemed.

That is why I am here and stopped making YT videos. Plus making YT videos requires wayyyy more work, it is a total grind.

I think making short Blog Posts are great for reading, and podcasts are the future for real information. I barely even watch videos on YT any more, just listen to podcasts.

On Facebook like 40% of my friends on their deactivated their accounts.

I miss Myspace, where you were able to customize your page and have music play :)

ya facebook is past its prime when it comes to social media on the internet. Time for something new.

Yup, as long as the platforms are attached to corporate boards and shareholders they will continue to have their agendas come first before the actually content creators that make these platforms so popular in the first place.

I think the future is bright for steemit. Comparing it to other platforms like youtube, its a no brainer where id rather be

Its time for us to all boycott youtube

Turning people into Robort...north korea is in play....
