In a survey conducted by Google Indonesia with Kantar in January 2018, it was known that YouTube viewers in small towns or rural areas were also numerous. It's just that the type of content consumed is different.
According to Veronica Utami, Head of Marketing Google Indonesia, YouTube viewers in rural areas outside, consuming more entertainment and football videos.
"From the content side, users in the rural area are more straightforward, they are relaxed with gossip entertainment, whatever its channel is watched by gossip and football.
While YouTube viewers in urban areas or urban areas, consume more videos more varied, such as music, comedy, travel, and lifestyle.
They also use for education, like watching tutorial videos. The difference in content consumed between YouTube users in urban and in the region according to Vero, not separated from the telecommunications infrastructure.
In urban areas, there are many public WiFi in cafes, restaurants, or schools. While users in the region still rely on cellular connections.
"This is because they explored earlier than rural viewers, where WiFi is not available, and video consumption still relies on 3G and 4G connections,".
