Before rebranding, the Muslim Brotherhood, which was founded in Egypt by Hassan al-Banna in March 1928, had up to 2.5 million followers and was the largest political party in Africa.
It was founded as an Islamist religious, political, and social movement.
The group later spread to other Muslim countries but has one of its largest, organizations in Egypt, where it has been the largest for many years.
Its the best-organized, and most disciplined political opposition force.
It founded the Justice and Justice Party in 2011 following the 2011 Egyptian Revolution.
As at 2014, the organizational was declared a terrorist group by Egypt, Russia, Saudi Arabia, UAE and once again suffering a severe crackdown.
