Yes, objective reality and the effects within it trump the subjective beliefs we want to be true that aren't. Being rational can apply to real true thinking based in principles, or false thinking in bullshit ;)

I'm not trying to push religion, or claim that they came up with moral absolutes first- but things like not killing, stealing or lying are pretty practical. Long before I came to believe, I endorsed "Do unto others" (a staple of most religions) simply because it made good sense.
