geeking out a bit to get in for the first showing in my city of Ready Player One. Expectations probably too high. possibility of disappointment astronomical.

Much to my surprise, it was GREAT! Definitely exceeded my expectations. I need to read the book now.
It was good. But definitely read the book!!! So much more depth and detail.
I understand why the movie was made the way it was, and I am glad the author was one of the screen writers so he could keep at least portions of his vision entact. There is so much more to the Oasis and The Game though. So much had to be left out, or changed because it just isn't good movie material watching people play Joust.
The book is tremendous, the movie was good. Somewhat better than I expected, at least it mostly stayed on course. If you don't have time for the book, the audio book narrated by Will Wheaton is pretty fantastic too.
Ah to be expected - I feel like this is always true with books made into movies. Good to hear that you weren't all out disappointed though (which is always a risk with movie adaptions). Just picked up a copy so will have to dive into it!
Its Spielberg though so you never know, it could be damn good. We're hoping it really good.
I enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend it for anyone with a science fiction, virtual reality or eighties interest. It picks through all three pretty well.
It probably could have been split into a couple of movies, the source material is dense enough and enough of the main plot line had to be left out just to get the movie under 2.5 hours.
All in all, I'm glad it got made, I am glad I got to see it, and I am glad it turned out better than I expected it to. I might have hoped for more from the book, but I was satisfied with the way it played out on the screen.
Good comment @zappl
