Zeus (Jupiter)
His name in archaic Greek means "bright
sky". This is the supreme god and thunderer, the winner of the titans (the oldest race of giants), who has extended his power over the entire universe. His name is cognate with Latin deus ("god") and Sanskrit Dyaus (the name of an ancient Indian celestial deity).
Zeus and his two brothers cast lots to divide the dominions. Zeus's brother, Poseidon, got power over the sea, and his other brother, Hades, became the master of the underworld. Zeus owns the heavens and the surface of the earth.
In his treatise On the Nature of the Gods, Cicero writes: “Let's start with Jupiter. Those who are called theologians first counted three Jupiters. Of these, the first and second were born in Arcadia, one father was ether, from this Jupiter were born, as they say, Proserpina and Liber. The other was the son of Heaven and, they say, gave birth to Minerva, from whom, according to legend, wars started, she invented them. The third Jupiter, the son of Saturn, was a Cretan, and his tomb is shown on this island. The Roman god Jupiter had many epithets: "lightning-nosed", "thundering", "rainy", "fruitful", "beech", "Oak","reed"... Indeed, this ancient Italian deity, who later became the supreme god of the Romans, patronized agriculture since ancient times.
