Normally I really dislike zoos, the experiences I’ve had seeing those poor animal in cages with their sad look in their eyes leaves me feeling horrible, but my son really wanted to go, so we decided to take him.
When we arrived the first thing we encountered was a multitude of people gathering where the penguins were, they were all with their cameras and phones out just waiting, while at the other side of the fence, all the penguins were gathering themselves looking out of the window with anticipation.
A man started speaking loudly in Swiss German, giving instructions of how to behave and what not to do, I couldn’t believe what he was saying! They were going to take the penguins out for a walk around the park! This was so exciting!!
As the opened the door, all the penguins started coming out and taking their stroll, wandering around the zoo freely and with their heads up while all onlookers admired them in awe! This was our first experience as we entered the zoo. Just amazing!
We didn't have a chance to see the whole zoo as it's huge! (or it feels huge when walking with a 4 year old) but here is a small glance of the few things we got to see.
My kid was a bit freaked out by how still the piranhas were, floating very still just waiting...
It was such a treat to see the penguins swimming and being so playful.
There were some very interesting animals that I've only seen before in books.
It was amazing to see this animals up-close.
There are quite a few places for the children to play and to sit to enjoy a picnic
If you are ever in Zurich in winter, you have to go and see this wonderful animals taking their awesome free stroll outside of their confinement space.
