In Indonesia there are many welcoming dance arts. this is due to the large number of worshiping guests, which causes traditional communities in each region to make special dances that are suited to their cultural tastes.
One of them is Ranup's lamp dance in Aceh. This dance is prioritized to welcome guests.
Ranup means betel, while Puan is a unique betel place in Aceh. In this dance, the dancers bring betel to the groom. For the people of Aceh, betel has become a kind of symbol of welcoming guests. These native vines have been used to welcome guests in their daily lives.
In the North Aceh Regency where I live Ranup Lights Dance is very often displayed when there are official events or not. Especially in my village, krueng baroe langgahan, this dance is often performed when there is a marriage, betel served to newly married couples. The dancers usually consist of small children made using traditional Acehnese clothes.
