- Witness votes (W) (for those proxying witness votes, your total is always 30)
- Up-votes to others (V)
- Up-votes to different authors (U V)
- Self-votes - a (getting smaller each week) minus score for this one sorry! (S V)

I was waiting for this post, you know that and it's finally here :) After your last week's post was out, I started to study the list to see where I need to improve my activity and was waiting to see this week's edition to see if I have learned something.
The fact that I am where I am this week is a confirmation that last week was not a waste of time. I have learned a lot, connected with a lot of people, found a new community which I love and hoping I can learn a lot from and this is not all.
There's still a lot to learn, there's still a lot to figure out but I'm confident :)

Thank you very much for the explanations. Now I see clearly where and what. I've even managed to figure out the second chart, the curation chart. That's really helpful as well. I don't have many SP right now but that's not relevant, it's relevant how I'm using it, right? There is someone in front of me with only 25 SP, soo ... "use your SP wisely" :)
You're right, writing long comments takes time, time we don't always have. This week I'm going to work hard on that, let's see where it's going to take me, but the week after will be a busy one, so I'm not going to be on the list, or not in the top ten, that's for sure. But it's ok, no problem.
Anyway, thank you once again for your amazing work! It helps me a lot to develop, exactly what I needed.

Blue is the way to go if you can't get into the top 10. The prize from winning a no self-vote is going to be bigger than the rewards for self-voting... at least for most people it is.
It would be for me too but I'm lucky, I'm in the top ten this week, although that's not luck, I worked hard for it and learned a lot. This thing Asher is doing is very helpful, at least for me it is.

You definitely worked hard to have made it to the top 10. There's no luck involved. There are certain things you can focus on, like meeting more people, but at the end of the day, you have to put in the work. Congrats on your placement this week. :)

I'm not so much taking a break as life is taking me away. My wife had hernia surgery two weeks ago and continues her recovery, and I have my oldest son and his wife here, so it's kind of like a family reunion right now.
At any rate, good on you for the sponsor, and I find it particularly fitting that it be @tarazkp. Just seems like he should get something back for all his labor on our behalf. :)
Hope that your wife will recover soon! Enjoy the family time, much more important than this. And I have no doubt that you will strike back :)

Thanks for the mention. Taking a break is not quite what I'm doing. Being taking away from Steemit is more like it. My wife had her hernia surgery two weeks ago and so I've been needed more than usual to do things around the house and beyond. I anticipate that will continue to happen for another 10 days or so. I intend to get back into the swing of things after that, and see what can be done with getting my name back at the top of the list. :)

Thanks to @abh12345 and to the rest of the guys on here. I only joined the curation league last week for the first time and placed way down in 44th place. Starting this week fresh I decided to put in a big effort and see how high I could make it with time and effort. Absolutely delighted to make it into 3rd position and totally unexpected. I was just hoping to crack the top 20.
Congrats to @steemflow in second and to @janton in first place, with what can only be called ridiculous numbers. I know how much time I spent on the site this week so to have that amount of characters and comments is phenomenal. Doing it week in and week out is even more impressive. Hopefully your feeling a bit tired this week so i can take your number one spot, because the only way i'm beating that is if you sleep for a few days straight.
Got to be happy with 3rd spot on your second week, that's brilliant! Congratulations!

I've been away more than present for the last few weeks. Other projects have been taking my time, so I haven't been around as much. I'm still hoping to make a comeback at some point. Something that will more than get me a "0 self-votes" prize. So watch out! :D

Yes we are moved in, and i was all ready to post about it today, but we had a minor mishap with a drunk driver on our scooter :( We're ok, but sore; i did a post with more details (obviously haha), because I'm about to get off of here and lie down now.
I'm sorry to hear that! Wrecks are no fun on their own, but I can imagine that on a scooter it might be worse. I'm glad you're ok. It sounds scary. Get some rest and keep us posted when you have a chance.

Sorry, man. We must have forgotten to tell you about the lemonade. It was on the back porch where the TV was. That's all gone now. All we have left is the lamenting the "youth these days." Maybe we can get a new tv soon. One of the "youth of today" stole it. And the porch burned down. And the lemonade went bad. Don't worry, things will get better soon.

Thanks for the mention. It's nice not to be forgotten among all the young pups we have running around here now (new to the league is where I'm going with this). I'm not quite there yet, but I for one think someone, preferably a group of us 'old guard' folk, need to show people how things are done around here. I'd rather it be for more than just old time sake though. I'm not feeling like it's time for me to be turned out to pasture quite yet. Not by you, obviously. Just by life's circumstances.
As it is, I've got another 10 days before I can try to get back into the flow of things. So, really week after next is the first time I'll have to try to mount any serious attack of any kind on the mountain. Hopefully @janton won't be bored with it all by then. :)
My wife is doing pretty well. It's hard to know what's going on with her insides, but outwardly she seems to be getting better. We're still trying to restrict her activity until she's told otherwise by the surgeon, but she already has a greater range of movement and seems to be picking up speed. We've been walking almost every day and I think that's been helping her.
Absolutely! You've been a consistent part of my experience since the time that you found one of my posts on the NFL playoffs shortly after I started. These new kids aren't going to replace you. :D
I'm not sure if life's circumstances are trying to turn me out to pasture either. We have to fight against it and see what happens. It's pretty much a roll of the die.
It sounds like you're going to be busy for a little while, but that also means you can save up ideas and rest your typing fingers so you'll be ready when you mount that assault.
I'm glad to hear your wife is doing well! Walking tends to help with many different recoveries. It's strange how such a simple activity can do so much good for the body. It's nice though. And you're getting to spend time with someone you care about, so it's a win-win. Although you do have less time to spend on steemit, so maybe that factors in too. I don't know.
I didn't remember the NFL playoffs posts being you, so I went to go look. Definitely you, obviously, and there was a post before it I commented on about the Steemit delegation we got being halved or something.

My main issue right now is using the little time I do have to do something here. I'm not on 24-hour call anymore, but there's still the potential for it because my wife is at home. Since she has been feeling better, she's been wanting more done around the place. It's hard to gain any momentum when you could be called away at any minute, so I'm tending to waste time doing whatever, which really makes no sense at all, but that's where my brain and will are taking me right now.
We'll know more about how she's doing next week when she goes to the surgeon, but she does seem to be doing okay. I keep trying to convince her she should call and talk to someone about the aches, swelling, pinching, pain, whatever, but so far, she just wants to wait. I'd probably be worse if I were in her shoes, so I don't know if I should be trying to push seeing the doctor or not. I have no idea what's within the normal parameters or to be expected outside what the surgeon told us and gave us in writing. I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV.
Man, you must have been scrolling for a while to get back there. I've thought about it, but there's no easy way to search by a date range or something.
Interesting that we were already talking about the delegations. It was a frustrating time. I'm so glad to be out from under the delegation curse. Those were hard days to see it disappear just as fast as I earned it. Now I tend to get around 1-2 Steem per day in rewards, so it wouldn't take me too long, but at the time it was torture.
I understand the "doing whatever" because you might get called away at any moment. It's harder to focus on something when you know that you could be interrupted at any second... and then you'd lose your place.
I'm sorry it's not healing as quickly as you'd both like, and that there are some minor complications. Hopefully they're able to clear things up when she sees the doctor next week.
I'm not a doctor, I just look things up on WebMD. Ha!

Good morning, @abh12345. I see I'm not only one but two posts of yours behind. :)
My wife continues her convalescingβshe begins week three todayβand she seems to be doing well. She has what we think is swelling around the largest hernia, but it appears to be going down. We'll know more when she goes to see the surgeon on September 12.
On top of that, our oldest son and his pregnant wife have been visiting since Thursday, so as my numbers would indicate, while my thoughts have been here, my body and attention have been elsewhere.
We all have things in life we find ourselves attending to do, so I'm just stating how things are for me. This is what it looks like when I've got a couple hours a day to post, comment and curate, and sometimes a lack of interest because I can't do more, in case anyone ever wondered. :)
However, like most things in life, all things eventually do come to an end, and so while my limited work here is likely to continue for this week and half of the next, I am trying to pay attention to what's going on here, particularly in the league.
People seem a little too obsessed about a certain chair if you ask me. :)
At any rate, thank you Asher, for the leagues, thank you, @curie for all you do through sponsoring the leagues, your own comment contests, your curation, your witness, and anything else I might not be aware of.
And finally, congratulations to the all the winners, especially to all of the newer folks. Enjoy the top spots while you can. I'm not ready to call it a changing of the guard. I can't speak for the rest of the "old guard," but when my time is mine again, I fully intend to be pushing the boundaries of what I can do, especially for the last two weeks of September and hopefully beyond.

Well things do sound rather busy at your end, I can totally understand why your numbers are nothing close to previously. Like I tell Lynn, there is really no requirement to provide a reason for 'absence', 'life' is usually the reason.

This league is heating up. This is the highest cut off score that I recall seeing for the top 25%. Previously it's been sub 5K from memory.
Well done to all our winners as usual. Evidence of a lot of hard work and and community spirit here that's for sure.
I've noticed the same thing @sparkesy43! I actually keep track of that sort of thing, so here's an example for you:
On April 29th, I was 60th in the Engagement list... with 64 comments/16589 characters.
This week, I was 60th in the Engagement list... with 93 comments/23438 characters.
Things are definitely heating up! And I take that as a very GOOD thing!

It is absolutely a good thing, particularly while the Crypto market is in a bit of a bear run as the engagement now is likely to be from people that are onboard for the long haul rather than those that want to just hit and run for the money.
As the league grows, it will get higher and higher. Every new person that gets placed is going to knock an existing person out of the rankings. So if that person wants to get back in they will have to up their score ect....ect... and the vicious cycle begins.
True enough, though for the past few weeks it has hovered around that 4500 mark, presumably because as new people join the league, others become inactive.
Well I'm very new to the whole thing so i will bow down to your experience. But if the numbers were holding there, obviously there was a reason for it.
You would know a lot better than me who was in and out of the league so I'm sure that there were a lot of people who fade in and out. I know that I had to put in massive effort to place last week and straight away after I was just thinking that I can't put in that much time again.
From what I've heard janton has been consistently at the top of the chart so fair play because I don't know how that is even possible to hit those numbers every week.

Yeah @janton is a force of nature to be able to sustain that level for that length of time. I'm happy just to feature in the top 25% every week given the time constraints I have with work and family
His numbers are crazy. I am kind of tempted to knock him off there though and i am off this week so it could be done i'm just not sure if i want to put in that much effort to doing it. With that said, i am a massively competitive person and could give it a go.
Anywhere on the chart is decent and if you can make top 25% on a regular basis that's a great result. Once i'm back to work next week that will be my aim too. I'm not used to having this much free time to myself so it's interesting to see the difference it can make on steem. There were a couple of other contests that i entered at the same time and did ok with those as well so it was a good week in terms of progressing my account in followers and sp. I also saw lots of new parts to the site that i had never come across before like a "snake" game built onto the blockchain from the old Nokia games. That one was a lot of fun.

Didn't fare so well this week but still in the engagement listings around no. 60; dropped out of the curation listings, probably because I lost one of my delegations last week β not unexpected; it was temporarily gifted to lift me above 500SP, a couple of months back. One of these days, I'll make it to full minnowhood... under my own steem.

Ok, so I've got to figure out what I changed this week, that sent me down on the list. I thought that I increased my number of comments, comment length etc. but went down. I'm thinking probably reply rate, more comments but the number of replies to the comments was down. I guess Friday is too late in the week to start commenting. lol
I had to take some points off for the folks that this week I spotted using fast reply and partiko.
This message is over 200 characters long:
My only method this week was to work out the length of the additional text that partiko, ulogs, fast reply add to the message, and multiply that by the number of messages.
None of this took place last week.
This is going to be very troublesome for me, especially as people switch around and use multiple access points.

lol, you would pick that message... I guess the emojis take up Quite a few characters too. I probably used fast-reply for 80% of my replies, it stops working once the replies get to 10 deep.
That could be problematic, depending on the scripts you are using. I'm just starting to poke around on the dev and data side, but I think I saw that an app was recorded with the comments.
(I'm just guessing SQL based and on the field names as well...)
SUM( CASE WHEN app = 'fast-reply' THEN char_count = CHAR_LENGTH(comment_text)- 150 WHEN app = 'partiko' THEN char_count = CHAR_LENGTH(comment_text)- 100 ELSE char_count = CHAR_LENGTH(comment_text) END )It might take a bit to get setup capturing the char count for each tag. It looks like it counts the markdown for the link in character count as well...
It would probably work faster as part of a subquery in the from statement.
The emoji's might be another issue altogether, they are at least 10 char each but would depend on what encoding the system is using. You might could count occurrences of either U+ or &# and multiply that by 10 and subtract it from the total.

Thanks for the understanding that the post does take a reasonable amount of time to organise each week - it's well worth it for all, including myself I think/hope!
An autovoter is fine with regards to the Curation league, it's just fairly tough to appear. Also, if you have had recent delegations, you will also be knocked off the list for a few weeks - perhaps it is this that has done it, and you will appear this next week or the week after.

Can I just state for the record, at the risk of being rude and also upsetting some folks that I have come to know and admire, that while I understand that each one of those apps and sites are attempting to spread the word of their existence around the STEEM ecosystem with promotional taglines, that said taglines become utterly annoying and counter productive after the fifth or so time you see them.

As ever, however, I am the odd man out. I readily admit it. It's lonely here where I am, but you can't beat the peace and quiet. :)
I appreciate greatly, that while it does increase your workload to weed all of these extra characters out as best you can, that you are doing that. Although I suppose the rest of us who don't use them could just add our own taglines to equal things out. :)

I was getting a bit sick of seeing them even prior to the fact i've now got to check each comment for reply source and deduct a certain amount of characters. I didn't really need this extra piece of work!

But you use Excel. So I would say you just check them once or once in a while. And then use a formula to make the correction. I think it can be automated with something like a standard take + vlookup formula + simple calculation for the corrections.
From what i have seen so far, users like to vary between apps, and so it looks like i'll need to check each comment individually, as not to 'punish' the individual too much.
The query is tough enough on the SQL server already, i'm dreading to think how long it is going to take to process now :/

That was what I did last week, and i was glad it somehow paid off.. this week wasnt that bad at all, because compared to last week stats and today, there were changes in numbers.. i guess more people had really gone to engagement pretty much this week..

I hadn't heard about it before this but, i've changed one of my votes now. Maybe for the newer members a bit of a push towards it? I'm sure if they are active users and involved in the league that they would love to if they had the chance.

Can't force people to vote for the witness but I know that speaking for myself I didn't even know that the community was even running one. So anything that gives people the option should make a difference. Even a link at the end of the engagement post with a quick memo would help.
I've seen that a lot of the entrants don't even have all thirty of their votes used so i'm sure if they were prompted in the right direction they would be more than happy to use that vote to support.
It's been at the bottom of the League post for months :D
I may put a list together and contact people who i think would be ok with it individually...
