A couple days ago I was doing some research on the interwebs, an item I will be buying shortly...or maybe I've already bought it and I was so excited I wanted to look at it some more; you'll never know, but anyway the point is I was sitting in front of my computer looking at it and all of a sudden something happened...I got hungry.
I know, it's not all that exciting, I mean people get hungry all the time right?
I tried to ignore the feeling of hungridity (yeah I know that's not a fucken word) but I couldn't...I was quite literally in danger of starving to death if I didn't act; it had been at least two hours since I ate lunch after all.
I made my way to the kitchen to see what might be available to cure my hungryosity - (yeah I know that's also not a fucken word). There were a few selections available and I almost went for the crumbed chicken schnitzel, a lone remnant from dinner the night before, then I saw a container of juicy, tasty, fucken legit strawberries and I immediately knew they would be perfect to sate my hungracionness...(and yeah I know that's not even close to a fucken real word).
I took my snack back to my office and, with great expectation, I ate a strawberry.
It was a juicy, tasty, fucken legit fucken horrendous tasting piece of shite!
Ok, one bad strawberry in a container of many isn't too bad...next one, I thought. See how optimistic I can be?
Nope, terrible. I had a third and predictably...horrid.
This was fucking with my head. My eyes saw strawberries, ripe, red, juicy looking strawberries - that's what my brain told me based on what my eyes saw - but while actually being strawberries, they tasted nothing at all like strawberries. I can't even explain what they tasted like to be honest but whatever it was it certainly wasn't fucken strawberries.
Anyway, I decided to take a photo of one to share here...My motivation was to double check with y'all that I was indeed holding a strawberry which, I think we can all agree, I was. The problem was the way it tasted...well, it might have well been a piece of juicy cardboard. It was shit...and so belongs in the shit photo community.
I threw the entire lot out in disgust and had to resort to the chicken schnitzel (I always have a back-up plan) to address my hungration, (not a fucken word y'all), which worked just fine.
I don't know who to blame for my strawberries tasting shit but I'd like to find out, that asshole needs a good old beating, as do many other's besides I guess. Anyway, have you ever bought fruit and vegetables that didn't taste like they should. I guess farming techniques have changed so much that we don't know what we're actually eating anymore and with the drive for more stuff but with cheaper costs to manufacture we're left with sub-standard produce...it sucks major ass.

Very definitely a strawberry but based on the dint at the top and the colour at the bottom in that particular one I would have proceeded with caution.
Sucks that the whole punnet was awful :< but at least you had the fallback shnitzel otherwise who knows what tragedies would have fallen.
One must always have a chicken schnitty to fall back on right? Lol.
Those strawberries did a number on me and I felt quite ripped off! 😭
I think some kangaroos shat on the harvest. That's probably the reason. If only there was a way of controlling them.
Yeah, pesky fuckers.
@ligayagardener can we get this man some decent strawberries please?
Lol, it's like I'm starving or something. 🤔
Seriously though, how bad is some of the produce we pay top dollar for!
Well it looked like a good strawberry...what a disappointment when you know what something should taste like, but it doesn't actually measure up once it's inside your mouth lol. I'm finding the same with melons, tomatoes and apples. They just don't have the taste they used to have.
I think you should compose and print your own version of Webster's ...maybe call it Galen's Dictionary :)
It's been a fair while since I've tasted a good strawberry; let me think, oh yeah when I grew my own! It's pretty disappointing considering the cost of them but that's the way if it and it's not just strawberries, most produce doesn't taste like it used to in ye olden days.
A dictionary huh? Hmm, seems like a good idea.
Or maybe better titled Galenisms
It works better with my real name, flows better, but let's go with yours for now. ☺️
That is definitely a strawberry. Probably my out of season which might explain it.
Between the shit they spray on them to fend off pests, picking them before they ripen so they make it to the store, bumping down the road and storage here and there, it is a wonder they have any taste at all.
After having a summer of tomatoes, cucumbers and strawberries from the garden, my family is not too impressed at how they taste from the store now that they come from across the continent. Even this gimpy one tasted like a sweet symphony.
I probably my would have gone for the schnitzel as plan a to tackle that hungrosity.
Yep, you have it right, there's perfectly good reasons for shit tasting produce; humans just seem to be on the wrong path in many aspects and here's another.
I grow some things, have a vegetable garden and grew strawberries a couple times and they were the best, no sprays or additives, and tasted great. The same with my other produce including tomatoes...going back to store bought is no bueno as you say.
The schnitty was fucken good though, I have to admit...and it would have made a better plan A.
I haven't experienced it myself but I've heard a few people commenting lately that their fruit tastes strange and has a weird texture. Gawd knows what we're eating.
Yeah, the texture I didn't mention as I didn't really know how to describe it. Sort of, umm...woody I guess. Not good.
Oh yeah, I know exactly what you're talking about. It looks like a perfect strawberry, no blemish, no nothing, it may even smell a little like strawberry, right? But - it is now weird, alien abomination that made its way into your fridge. Beware, GalenKP! These imposters are vicious or maybe they're just
badnot tasting at all.I have avoided buying strawberries for years because of the very same experience. This year was the first that in the height of strawberry season we got some that were actually really good.
I hope you'll find good strawberries next time. Don't give up on them. They're yummie!
Yep, smelled right, looked right...was fucken all wrong from a taste perspective!
I've been strawberry picking in the past and they were awesome, grew my own too (not in sufficient quantities though) but for sure have been very disappointed with what's available in the shops. Due to their low sugar content it's one of the only fruits I eat so good tasting ones are important to me. On this occasion, nope, not good
Talking low sugar and yummie - I loooooove mixed berries during summer: Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries - all of them together, they're so very good. In fact, I got hooked on them while living down under. And I still love them to this day.
I hope you'll find some that taste as good as they look.
Yep, that's a legit combination. I often have strawberries and blueberries with a low sugar yoghurt and sprinkled granola on top. A good breakfast.
(I love raspberries but too high in sugar to have more than a few now and then.)
I'm of course more interested in the picture behind the scenes. How VERY interesting, I just hope it's in a "man-sized" caliber. lol
Well, wrong account, but I'm sure you caught it. Still on first cup of coffee. But yes, what he said. lol
Haha, yep one must have a manly calibre, all the better to slay with. Well spotted.
No, I ate it 🙂
When I look at this video, it reminds me of the taste and smell of homemade strawberries.
https://peakd.com/hive-155530/@duskobgd/hsxpxdhedk
The only problem is that I only have them in the garden for a short time, a week or two...
When they ask me, why don't you buy some fruit in the grocery store? Thank you.
Once a year is enough for me to eat 1 kg of strawberries from my garden (or tomatoes, grapes, peaches, plums, quinces...), but those that have a smell and taste, not the plastic crap they sell in supermarkets...
I hope the rifle you bought doesn't disappoint you like this strawberry (which is probably almost impossible, nothing can be worse than a plastic/cardboard strawberry).
I grow some of my own stuff but no strawberries this year unfortunately. Home grown produce always tastes better than store bought.
Hunger. No because it is always present 😔.
Don't you grow some fruits?
You once mentioned that the tomato you grow is very good.
I grow lots of things but no strawberries this year unfortunately.
OMG, I feel you! Nothing is worse than grabbing what looks like the perfect snack, and then it’s just cardboard vibes. It’s like strawberries are supposed to be this epic, sweet treat, but every now and then they just let you down hard. Reminds me of the time I got a ‘juicy’ apple that tasted like… paper HAHHAHAHA
So much of the fruit bought in the store tastes terrible these days which, considering the cost, is very annoying.
Right. As I felt hunger reading these words 😜
Oooh! That sounds an alarming condition. A fatal one 🤪
The picture of the strawberry is appearing of a juicy one, but what's inside only the user knows.
All that glitters is not gold....
Once, I had figs that I had to throw away because the taste was tertible. Similarly, a couple of times we had to throw away bananas and apples and our taste buds refused to accept them.
Fatal indeed...had I gone one more minute without food I'd have died!
Isn't it annoying when good doesn't live up to expectations? Figs, bananas, strawberries...they should all be magnificent all the time!
So true 🤪. After all, two hours means seven thousand and two hundred seconds That’s a whole lot of time.
It's very annoying. You know, It hurts me throwing food away as there are thousands of people who struggle for getting just a bite of something edible.
Yeah true, but you eating rotten or bad food won't feed thoae who are starving I guess.
Perhaps....
I watched a video of an Indian village where people ate soil and mud as their food because there was scarcity of edible things. That's terrible, isn't it?
Would these people not even eat rotten food? Nevertheless, I would never give rotten food to anyone for eating. That's another matter.
Yeah, mud would need a lot of sauce on top to hide the taste I think.
😿
So the lesson is, that when hungrimidity comes, don't rely on a single source of solutions. Have a backup plan, especially for strawberries.
I'm glad to hear that you weren't left hungrified.
Yeah, one must have a back up plan...I learned that the hard way...but then I guess I had one because I ate that schnitzel.
Farming techniques do influence the taste sometimes better and sometimes bitter. Even papaya does not taste the same sometimes as it did a few years back...
Yep, the constant drive towards foods being available out of season means farming techniques have changed so much.
And it looked like it was juicy and tasty judging by the photo, because being ripe it is supposed to have flavour and well .... it didn't turn out that way.
It happened to me with the mango, it looked good but when I tasted it I almost died, it tasted like shit and tasted like medicine.... they cut them green, put them in chambers and they don't have the natural ripeness and to make matters worse if they come from abroad, for example from Brazil, they are greener, and uglier. And this happens with other foods. I prefer fruits that are grown near here, they taste much better.
Tasteless strawberries and mangoes are no bueno.
Like this .... and that it tastes delicious not shitty hahahaha
It looks like it was in pretty good shape. We get some sketchy looking ones here when they aren't in season. At least you had something to fall back on. One of my pet peeves is when you finish a batch or handful of something on a bad bite.
Yep, looked good, tasted like shite. I feel duped.
That sucks!
I seldom eat strawberry because we can't see them here most of the time. There are only few who planted this and sell on the market.
Have you considered growing your own?
I tried before in a pot, I am so happy when the leaves go many but in the next day I felt so sad when all the leaves are gone. Maybe eaten by the chicken of our neighbors, so sad.
Yep, chickens do that. 😊
So sad, no leaves left until it does and I cannot find another to plant again.
it looks like a very nice strawberry to me , maybe your taste buds are broken
Yeah...I keep testing my tastebuds out by eating and I can assure you there's nothing wrong with them...but I keep testing anyway. So nope, it was definitely that strawberry, otherwise known as a shitberry.
Well that's that then shitberries in the bin
Right where they belong.
🤣 👍
I am definitely late, there are already many testimonials that claim that it is a strawberry. Although I doubt it. Why are the eyes more reliable than the palate? Or to put it another way, in this world of appearances, advertising and public relations, I trust experience more than appearance. In short, in my opinion, that's not a strawberry.
Have a good weekend Galen.
Yep, looks like one...but tasted like cardboard so I'd say nope, not a strawberry...well, not like how a strawberry should be anyway.
I think it's already Saturday over there, enjoy the weekend.... And I still think 🤔 they weren't strawberries.
Very big greetings.
The strawberries you bought were not tasty so you were angry. Your hungryness turned into anger. Vegetable and fruit sellers sometimes do this, it is cheating.
Yeah, I'd like to give whomever is responsible for those strawberries a thrashing.
