You ever have one of those days where you don't really feel like doing the normal things with your friends but still really want to get out of the house, maybe get a bit of exercise as well as help to satiate your dog's never-ending cravings for spending time with you no matter where you go?
Well, maybe not but it is something that I feel at least once a week. If you follow my stuff you know that I have been trying to not get super-trashed all the time anymore or at least, not very often. Nothing against my friends but for the most part my group of people have a tendency to go to one bar and just sit there endlessly even though nobody is having a very good time. So I decided that I was going to grab my pup, and head out the door and go to 6 or 7 places and stay for a maximum of one drink at each place.
The first place we went to is in my neighborhood and is where you can count on a lot of people that I know hanging out in day or night. It isn't a terribly nice place but it is cheap, they like Nadi, and it's a good place to begin and then leave from without any real hassle. The next spot we went to was a good 200 meters away and seeing as how it was daytime, around 2pm, this was a hot walk for both of us. We made it though and I didn't take a picture there. I had one more beer with a friend that was already there - didn't plan on that - and we were on our way to the next spot.
The 3rd place is just some other dive bar that can be counted on to have a few people that I know in it as well but is kind of well-known for having a bunch of crazies that hang out there on a regular basis, because of this we didn't hang out there very long because while I don't really try to judge people too much for excessive drinking, being shit-faced at 3 in the afternoon is something that I don't have a lot of tolerance for.
At the next bar we went to things were more chill and I didn't take a picture because they had an emulator with old-school video games on it. I played a couple games of Galaga (bonus points if you know what that is) and it took me a while to drink my beer that I had in a glass of ice. This might sound like a hate crime to people in the west but it is actually quite common over here. If you don't put ice in a glass you have only one other choice and that is to drink the beer all sorts of fast and well, that isn't good for you now is it? Plus you get a bit hydrated at the same time.
It was getting near dinner time so I stopped to get some noodles and the lady that was working there decided to give my pup an entire spring roll. I don't normally like it when people give my dog food but we had gone above and beyond the call of duty as far as her daily exercise is concerned so I let her have it.
At this point it had started to get a bit dark but my doggy friend was still not tired. I was impressed with this because her legs are quite short and we had already walked nearly 2km.
After this beer was done we headed to our last port of call, The Shamrock bar, which was also where our journey began. We had walked nearly 3 and a half kilometers at this point and while this is no biggie for me, when your legs are 4 inches long, that is quite the journey. I popped her up on a chair and she quickly started showing me exactly how tired she was.
I'm not one to keep my doggie friend out too late so I had my one beer and then we called it a day. When we got back home she drank a bunch of water and then proceeded to find a nice place to lie down and go to sleep. This was a lot of activity for my dog and she appreciated it... I think.
Nadi is the type of dog that gets depressed if I am not around so I don't stay away from the house for too long if I don't have to. She doesn't really even seem to care so much about where I am going, she just wants to go with me. This is one thing about this city that I really like: The restaurant and bar owners don't seem to mind at all if you bring your dog inside. I don't presume it is ok though and I always ask for permission before bringing Nadi in.
7 beers were consumed on my part and while that might seem like a lot to people out there that don't drink very often it is actually quite a low level for me on a weekend. Then we got home before 8pm, had some dinner and were in bed watching a movie by 10pm. Not a bad Sunday if I do say so myself.
Galaga was the space ship game that you used to shoot rows of space ships above that looked like bees and every now and then would swarm down and either shoot you or try and capture you. I have not played this in years and did not even know it was still around.
7 beers plus exercise in between is kind of normal, but I would need a snack first. I have not down a proper pub crawl in years and remember the Golden Mile in Durban where we had a good 20 pit stops to knock off in about 5 hours. I would not do that now as you would most likely get mugged before making it half way.
it's tragic to hear what has become of Durban and other places. I hear the stories a lot over here from people that are refusing to return to their own country out of fear. Some that I know are seeking political asylum.
On a lighter note though, 20 locations would be a ton to take on. Even though I have quite the tolerance I don't think I could handle 20 beers.
Seven beers across six hours really isn't too bad at all. I hope Nadi didn't jump off the bed in the middle of the night on you after eating that spring roll. It actually looks like it was quite delicious! I think the heat would get to me for sure. I'd be looking for places that have good A/C if I were going on a pub crawl!
She did well... Honestly buddy I am starting to worry about her... She recently has started to sit on the floor near the door every time I leave.... she will fall asleep there. In the past she would go to one of her beds..... now she just stares at the door..... long periods of time..... It makes me worry
Yeah, that is sad. She seems healthy though? No aches or pains? I think what finally got us with Jo was when she couldn't get up the stairs anymore. She still had an appetite and as much energy as you could expect from a 14 year old dog, so that made it hard. After the fact someone made the comment "she's ready when you are ready". We probably made Jovi suffer longer than we should have, but she had no way of letting us know. It doesn't sound like you are at that point yet though.
no I am far from that point and am grateful for that. She has no aches that I am aware of, just doesn't have much energy for activity but that is fine. She can sleep the whole day away all the time if she wants to!
At that age for sure. We didn't even feel bad letting Jo sleep as much as she wanted. She more than earned it after us dragging her around for 13 years!
Ohh that's nice of them, over here they don't as we they have the no pet sign in so many places.
Could that be term as a work in progress for you?
Nadi? such a beautiful name.
So cutie dog , I remember my dog hunter
I hope you have very fond memories of your dog, Hunter. I know that my dog, Nadi, will be a memory in a few years and this is why I try to take her out for as many photo opportunities as possible.
