A few months ago I posted about the Grosse Point Light. It is a lighthouse on the shores of Lake Michigan in Evanston, Illinois.
It is a beautiful place to visit in autumn and provided many photo opportunities.
With the trees becoming bare, and the pathways covered in fallen leaves, the park felt different than it had this summer.
Today the lakefront complex includes the Lighthouse and the Harley Clarke mansion, on five acres of park.
The greenhouse has been newly restored and is being used to grow plants to landscape the
park. The city hopes to find a buyer or lease agreement for the Harley Clarke mansion and its coach house and greenhouse.

Harley Clarke was a wealthy utilities magnate who had, at one time, simultaneously served as the president and treasurer of five separate subsidiary light, power, and gas companies.

According to this website, the Harley Clark mansion is leased for the next 40 years (until 2061.05.10) in 2021.
Four proposals to save the mansion were considered, with the winning bid submitted by Audrey Niffenegger, the author of best-selling novel The Time Traveler's Wife, who bagged a 40-year lease. The world-famous writer planned to reinvent the mansion as the Artists Book House, comprising a library, bookshop, arts studio, and cafe.
However, in January 2023 the Artists Book House withdrew from the project due to lack of funding, following a three-year attempt to revitalise the building.

I wish I had enough money to buy and maintain that mansion. I have always loved big houses and mansions although I've never lived in one.

No, but it is all on the same property that has belonged to the city. The mansion was recently sold with plans to renovate it and use it as a 10 room boutique hotel and event center.
I have just read about it from your comment on the post. That's awesome. I hope I could visit that place someday.

How did the mansion of Harley Clarke become the city property?
I found this-The mansion’s construction was completed in 1927, 12 years before Harley Clarke and his family (after filling bankruptcy and then rebuying in his wife's name) sold the house to the Sigma Chi national fraternity. In 1965, in decent condition, the City of Evanston purchased it for $265,000 (£208k), it was leased to the Evanston Arts Center for a symbolic one dollar a year. After no maintenance for 50 years, the city decided it was a liability and talked about demolition. The community voted and the mansion was recently sold and will become a boutique 10 room hotel.

The Mansion has recently been sold and will be restored to become a 10-room boutique hotel and Event Center. The city was considering demolition, so I think this is the best alternative.
