Yesterday was the Eclipse and people from all over were traveling long distances to be in the path of totality.
It was 90 % total at my house, and that was good enough for me!
I ordered eclipse glasses, read a few articles to learn how to get good photos so that I would have something to post here, and watched a few videos that explained the science of the eclipse.
My family were all excited about watching and taking photos. My daughter planned her lunch hour so that she could be outdoors to watch, and my son took a vacation day. We all laughed at each other in our big clunky glasses.
I went out on the deck and watched and listened for any changes in wildlife behavior.
The geese were honking and came back to the river where they usually spend the night, and when it was over the neighbors rooster was crowing as if he thought it was morning. But the only thing I really noticed was the rather dramatic drop in temperature. I came back into the house to get a jacket.
How hard can it be to get a photo of the sun?
20 years from now, when the next eclipse occurs, remind me to leave the photography to NASA!

Do go look at real eclipse photos! These photos do not look at all like what we were seeing.
Very cool! I went and saw the ring of fire a couple months back. It's would have been fun to be able to travel to an area of complete totality, but definitely was not in my budget!

Any of these events really make the universe up close and personal, don't they? We go through our days without even thinking about what is going on beyond our day-to-day lives, and it's awesome to be reminded how grand the Universe is.
It just reminds us of just how small we really are in the grand scheme of things!

It was amazing to watch, wasn't it? The universe is awesome.
Louisville was 99.7% total, so I had to drive up to Hoosier National Forest in Indiana to catch totality. You need a solar filter to get shots of the sun outside of totality but you can put your eclipse glasses over your phone and use it as a filter if you're just shooting with your phone. Lol, I ordered a cheap paper solar filter just for the occasion...but it didn't fit over any of my lenses. Weren't any roosters around surprisingly but the cows sure had a lot to say about the eclipse.
We certainly didn't have proper equipment, but we all enjoyed watching the event! Makes you realize what an incredible place our universe is!

I haven't been able to see the photos of the eclipse yet, yours are the first ones so they don't look bad to me, hehe but I'm still going to look for some more to have more data. Here in Cuba we could see one recently, it was at noon and the light of the day became dimmer, it must be great to see a total one, or almost...

It was so amazing that none of us could resist trying to take a photo with our mobiles. We obviously did not have the proper equipment for photographing the Sun!

Wow, interesting images. What's going on in the second one? the one with multiple crescent suns? That was clicked using a special lens or something?
That one was clicked by my daughter. No special equipment was used, but none of us could resist a few shots with our mobiles just to see what we captured. We all laughed at our results, as none of them were at all what we had been viewing through our special eclipse glasses!

Those are some spectacular Fotos and great to see the family all having fun together. Is it not recommended to look without glasses?
Safe solar viewers are 1000s of times darker than regular sunglasses, I guess.
Viewing any part of the bright Sun through a camera lens, binoculars, or a telescope without a special-purpose solar filter secured over the front of the optics will instantly cause severe eye injury.
There were warnings everywhere.

This so beautiful, and the experience with the kids would be a long lasting one.
It was 80% something here. I looked at once, my boss was being a try hard getting frustrated taking pictures not getting the results he hoped for. I heard you need a telescope with a special lens to get what you actually see, who knows, hehe. In 2017 it was 99% here that was cool. 20 more to the next one here, hope that takes awhile, hehe...
Even though it was awesome to watch it never really got dark here this time. 2017 was much more dramatic.
