This morning I popped online and was flooded with spring-ish posts about gorgeous dandelions and other plants. Spring time cheer oozed from my computer screen. "Hey, Walkerland" Are you excited for spring?", these posts inquired.
" Not particularly" I replied.
I quickly turned off Facebook scolding myself for having bothered to go there in the first place. I happily jumped over to steemit where the landscape is not taunting and cruel. I quickly fell into reading and catching up on the happenings of my friends.
Having the internet is a blessing out here on the homestead. Right now, in my life, it is impossible to imagine spring. We do get feverish and restless at times waiting for the snow to melt.
Which is a very long way away.
There is only winter as far as the eye can see. Actually, If you ever wanted to examine snow from close up while staying warm, our cabin is the place to be.
Nature has set up the ultimate snow viewing experience and you are welcome to come and partake (just bring cream and sugar pretty please).
I call this photo: Snow from the kitchen.
It's cold outside too. Tonight they are predicting -35C overnight. Risk of frostbite.
Probably not a night to go camping (or anywhere for that matter).
But this is what living in Canada is like.
This one is titled: Snow from the other kitchen window.
The snow is pretty, it's like snow art for your windows right? I wish I had one of those ultra macro lenses where I could capture the minute details of the snowflakes. I should dig out some magnifying tools and take a look because snow is quite amazing.
I call this photo: dining with snow.
And now that I have shared such an invigorating post about snow, I'll get back to work because I just got busted by my husband for being on steemit when I am supposed to be working. :)
Be well, be happy!
Ah too funny. Love your humour shining through! That snow is just mind boggling for me.
Facebook? Where it's not so taunting and cruel?

oooh, I'll have to eat my words now, talk about being taunting and cruel @riverflows and on steemit of all places! First, it was your photo of cheesy grilled bliss and now this photo of paradise. What's next creamy coffee? :) xx
I can organise that for you no problem. You can trust in me. In the meantime here is that cheese toast again.

That's it - I QUIT steemit! Forever. ...um ...well, for the next hour at least. I'm going to pretend it's 1983 and watch Flashdance. Who needs cheese toast when you're a maniac!
Haha enjoy! With your black coffee... ;P
Now I'm feeling truly evil... May you be warm and toasty! Plain toast that is. No cheese. Omg.. I'm horrible!!!

I still love you.
aw, shucks...
OMG delicious!!!!
Amazing pics of SNOW! I live where we get very little and miss the magic of it's cold, sparkle and glow.
Happy full snow moon to you and your husband!
Thank you so much @kimberlylane! Snow is beautiful. You've given me a nice reminder to appreciate the beauty of it. I suppose we've just had too much of a good thing.
I'd so happily trade my terrible never-ending mud for your snow...in fact I'm so happy we've got a winter storm coming with lots of snow predicted! 😂
oh mud is so hard to cope with especially with kids, and chickens to deal with. So messy. I still think I might swap with you for a while! :)
I’ve imagined it, but now I see what that much snow looks like from inside a house. Truly snowed in!
We got hit with about a foot of snow where I live, and the night before the supermarkets were ravaged and the lines were so long. These are people that can walk to the store in 15 minutes.
I’m in a more rural area, but I can walk to the store as it’s just 3 miles away.
Your photos give me even more perspective!
This is the worst of it. The other side of the house does not get like this at all. It is a cozy feeling - does not bother us. Snowstorms can be scary times; There's a lot of people around here don't have the resources to make it more than a few days without power/shops, etc. I am grateful that we are not in that position. We've been stuck at home for three weeks now and it hasn't been the end of the world although I am missing some luxuries and look forward to getting into town for a change of scenery.
wowowowowow i cannot believe your amount of snow. holy bajeeez! i am for sure going to tell ini- this is one reason i said i just couldn't homestead in canada- i don't do that well in freezing temps or permanent snow... but he suuuuper misses it! we could use a little (we've only gotten 1 snow that lasted a day lol)-- is it 8 ft + all over the homestead or does it blow up and make piles around the house? absolutely incredible.....
Around the house is the worst. The snow does build up quite a lot and this one wall the absolute worst of all. We've never had this much snow pile up there before - this is a record.
We keep the front shoveled, and the driveway cleared so that people can come and go, but it gets tighter and tighter as winter goes on. It's quite deceiving out there because It looks all flat and even, but the snow is higher than the garden fences in some areas - at least 3-4 feet deep. Snowshoes are the best because walking in it you'll quickly sink past your knees.
One thing I love is how everything sounds in the winter. It's like the world is so silent that each sound is amplified and almost startling at times. Somtimes it's just me and the odd crow making any noise at all. You can just imagine all the creatures cuddles up in the forest, and there I am stomping around making all that racket. There's also a crisp freshness that fills your lungs that is quite exhilarating. Winter is special just ...too long.
I am glad our snow has never gotten that high around the house. On the north side it can get 3.5' deep, but that doesn't reach the bottom of the window.... On the north side of the barn, there's sometimes still snow banks almost to June...
We do have years of a lot of snow. I remember one year a couple decades ago, when we ran out of room to push the snow and had to hire a front end loader to come in and move it back farther... But even then it never came up to the windows, just massive snow banks.
yeah, this is a bit much, it's the most we've ever had piled up against the house. This is the hardest winter we've had since moving here. Very cold and a lot of storms and high winds. Usually, I don't mind but this week I am struggling. I need to get outside and absorb some sun nourishment, I dislike being stuck inside for too long.
In some ways it seems like our climates have a lot of similarieties!
Sitting in the ER, yet again, last night, I noticed how pale my hands are. Not been outside much at all this winter, and the deep brown of October has completely faded. Been too sick to notice how little I'd been out...
I am so sorry to hear that @goldenoakfarm. I just can't imagine what you go through. I'll be thinking of you and sending you healing thouhgts.
Thanks! So far, doing a little better today.....
OMG! Nice view of the homestead you have there! Do you have to shovel your way out the front door?
Thankfully no, we've been able to keep ahead of the front. Our friends even made it up the driveway for a visit yesterday. That's where all our energy goes, keeping the place somewhat accessible. I'll have to get some snaps of the outside of our snow fortress soon. On a bonus note, The snow is providing me with good light for kitchen photography. :)
It must be hard to shovel the driveway when the truck is out of commission to plow, or do you have another vehicle dedicated to plowing? Oh yeah I love that about the snow.. more light, especially for photos and solar energy :) The straw bale we are living in is so dark because the thick walls, but the snow definitely lights it up in here more too . Last winter almost 100% of my food photos were outside, so I would grab the steaming food, run out in the snow in my slippers, snap the photo and then run back in lol!
