Reclaiming the irredeemable

in #abuse7 years ago

There is a fairly new repo started by Steemit Inc that allows spam fighters to submit a pull request to have bad actors faucet delegation revoked.

Faucet Delegation

When you sign up for a new account via steemit.com you receive 0.10 in Steem Power and a delegation of around 14.9 Steem power for 30+ days. This is also called a faucet, as you get it for free from a sponsor.

Enter redeemer-irredeemables

redeemer-irredeemables is a github repo created by Steemit Inc.

Redeemer normally reaps most of the initial creation delegation (leaving them a small delegation for bandwidth before HF20) - the users in this list have 100% of their delegation removed as they have been deemed unworthy of an SP loan. They retain their user account and nothing prevents them from posting or powering up their own SP.

Upon being notified by @whatsup about some garbage spam going on with the two accounts @belyako & @paulabelo I looked further into and noticed there was a set of around 180+ common accounts voting on their spam.

I found there are four content accounts who post nothing but the same title and one line over and over farming around $4-5 a day using around 19 Steem Power and 3,000 delegation provided by Steemit Inc over 188 accounts.

In the end, it isn't a lot of money, but I would much rather see that delegation go to new Steemians that deserve it and will use it to create quality content. It also looks bad for the community and encourages more to do the same allowing this to persist.

I created a pull request to have the delegation from the accounts removed, similar to what I did with the Steemit Defense League.

My previous pull request was handled quickly so I am confident this will be solved quickly as well. I only see about $37 in pending rewards across the four accounts which I have forwarded to Steem Cleaners which I hope can take care of. If not I will do it myself.

The entire list of voters can be found here or on the pull request.

This is like a leaky dam. The more holes plugged the more pop up.

Great find and keep up the diligence. Thank you.

This is very awesome. Also, very surprised that someone even bothered to create so many accounts to spam votes

@small11 and @dribu are 2 accounts created around the same time buying upvotes for typing few words which even looks like copy/paste. They should be in a blacklist IMO. Go look at the accounts.

How does @small11 get $85 for a copied 2 lines netflix Ad? Are those all bought votes? Doesn't look like he used bots - at least not the popular ones

Those 2 accounts are mostly spamming @minnowbooster for now. I've notified them on discord. When they get blacklisted there they'll move for other bots. I've already notified @smartsteem too.

They are blacklisted from MinnowBooster and Buildawhale (which will trickle to a couple of other bots).

Great to know. Keep up the good work!

I will have a look, thank you.

Very nice. Way to be diligent and weed out the spammers. It is pretty sad how clever people are at trying to game the system. If only they would put that energy towards something positive!

Sure it's a relatively small amount of money...but how often does this happen? How often is it caught and how much money has been fleeced from the reward pool because of it?

This has been going on since last year. This particular incident cost STINC 19 STEEM to create those 188 accounts. That's it. This is precisely the problem with delegation - the ability to create these accounts at a low cost, thus a lower degree of responsibility to ensure that they are "good actors." Sure, they can revoke the delegation, but usually long after the exploits have already occurred and rewards have already been gained by the exploiters.

If STINC insists on creating accounts, the least they could do is stop creating obvious bot-nets and perhaps be a little more responsive when they're discovered. Ideally, they ought to stop creating accounts in the first place and burn the stake that they have and don't deserve to control.

Stop being the largest problem here, STINC.

Hello there! Seeing your post on my feed is really worth reading and I really appreciate all the things you are doing making steemit a really great place to post our blogs and make the rewards a motivation blast for everyone! I totally agree that these default delegations should be given to deserving newbies to this great platform to strive harder engaging to other steemians. You are so workaholic @themarkymark and even those small and insignificant details don't leave your scrutiny. My witness, my first iconic person I laid my eyes to as I joined steemit.

The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.

Every time I see a new post from @themarkymark my eyes light up and I can't wait to start reading. Keep em coming

I didn't know about pull requests. There is shit ton of comment farming on this site

This is only for farming using the default delegation you get when making new accounts. Outside of that, it's down to flagging.

you have done a good job by providing the list of account holder. I think the account of such spammers should be closed very soon.

This is so helpful information especially for us who are still new and learning how steemit still operates!

Very beautiful post
Thanks for the sharing post
sir
I.m new joining the steemit

Very very nice photo

did you read the post?

He did. Didn't you see the footnote gif displaying Mark's hair? Very very nice photo.

Very very nice photo. Very very nice hair too. I could smell the fragrance from here.

I think I finally have you figured out. One can always attract more bees with honey.

That's awesome! Perhaps that will make it so there are fewer accounts that do nothing but resteem other posts even though they don't have any followers besides their other accounts.

Creating 180 accounts! That is a lot of effort that could be put into better use then gaming the system.

Yes, I think that amount of delegated SP could be used and distributed better. The thing is that the essence of steemit, which is to support good content, has been lost in favor of voting for posts with high probability of gain or automatic voting.

Good to see something being done to reclaim these delegations. It's worrying to think so many 14.9 SP delegations are either being wasted on spam accounts, or going unused in the hundreds of thousands of dead accounts.

Once again, thank you so much for cleaning up this place!

Thanks so much. I’m new here and trying to wrap my brain around how this place works. I guess there are people trying to scam the system without adding valuable content. Thanks for being a watchdog.

You'll never get a vote from me! You've let power go to your head and won't help people you knowingly blacklist and lie about.
