My crazy little dog woke me up in the middle of the night. She wanted out and promptly disappeared 😱
So, I had to find my glasses and a flashlight and wandered the yard thinking all the while that if someone or something had gotten her, she would have at least yelped.
We have had raccoons, coyotes, and owls in the yard and they all like a fat little dog for a snack.
Finally, I saw her walking to the door like nothing had happened. Well, something had happened! I was wide awake in the middle of the night!!!!!
For the longest time, I couldn’t go back to sleep. I should have gotten up and worked in the yard.
Instead, I was slow all day. But got a bit done. Made a plum sauce and canned green peach salsa. My roommate had said that she wanted to learn how to can. So, I waited until evening to do it. Then, she went off to do something- probably facebook 😩
I was a bit mad since I could have done it in the afternoon when I was doing the other fruit. Oh well. Lesson learned.
Anyway, the picture is of the green peaches that got chewed on by a green beetle. Now, they are salsa 😀
And it is once again late. Time to go to bed 😴

What a great way to use up the under-ripe fruit! We tend to have issues with our larger tomatoes never turning red, so we always end up using them green so the bugs don't eat them first, too. I would have gladly taken her spot in the canning lesson from you! That is something high on my list to start learning more about. For some reason it is one of those things that intimidates me a bit, but I'm sure once I started experimenting it would be a great skill to add to my kitchen arsenal!
yes. I think the only thing to watch out for is to keep things very clean. I like to have canned beans on hand for a quick meal. But for that, you need a pressure canner.

Funny enough, I actually just finished up a new batch of sauerkraut to start fermenting! I'm still a bit of a novice at fermenting, as well, but I am learning more and more about it. I feel pretty comfortable with the cabbage, and I did have one successful batch of beet kvass. I know there are tons of other veggies that you can work with, though, so I need to keep on getting out of my comfort zone!

It is really scary to have a pet disappear like that! I haven't lost my own pet, but someone I know did lose their cat and it was not fun. (He was found, though, and quite healthy!) I'[m glad you pet came back, but sorry that you lost some sleep.
I've been through that exact pet scenario many times. I even think "I would have heard at least a peep no matter what got them." I'm out there with my flashlight (I got a very good flashlight just for this type of event), starting to panic, and over the animal strolls. Wide awake after that.
Sounds like some 24 hours. I hope you got a deep and restful sleep that night.
