RE: Steemit Newbies: Ask Me Anything (About Steemit) In The Next Hour, OPERATION HELP NOOBS

in #ama7 years ago

Thanks for being a help to newbies @stellabelle. I also did a post as regards to that. I'll dm you the link later.

I'm not a newbie, but I'll like to know exactly how curation rewards work. When is the best time to Upvote a post?

Is there any reason that will stop someone from getting curation rewards from posts they Upvoted?

Thanks as I anticipate your answers.

AFAIK the best time to upvote a post is 30 minutes after it was written. People will very little Steem Power don't get much in the way of curation rewards because of the algorithm. This means that if I vote for a post at 30 minutes, and @dan votes for that same post at 30 minutes (+ 1 millisecond), he will get more Steem than me in curation rewards. That's why it doesn't make sense for minnows (and seaweed) to pile on votes for big posts. Cultivating social bonds is way more rewarding long-term.

@stellabelle, what if a post has Lasted for more than 24hrs, will I still get my curation rewards from such posts?

By the way, nice and helpful post. I've Upvoted and Resteemed. 👍

yes, but not as much as a curator who voted after 30 minutes.

"Is there any reason that will stop someone from getting curation rewards from posts they Upvoted?" - if you vote after 1 minute the post was made, the author gets 99% of your curation rewards. You have to wait 30 minutes so you get all of the curation rewards for yourself, but some people might vote before. It's a little game one could say. If you've found a hidden gem, wait to 30 mins and then vote and spread it. If you know the author gets voted by big whales always at 27 mins, you could vote at 26 mins etc.

Thanks very much for this reply @igster.
