Vote Distribution Revisited - What are the most Discussed Topics on Steemit

in #analytics8 years ago

There has been a lot of criticism lately toward the inappropriateness of post tagging. To attract votes some users abuse the steemit, steem and introduceyourself tags. For one reason, I don't like to see this and I really hope we find efficient ways to regulate such behavior.

On the other hand, something that gives me hope (for me as user and for the platform as well) is to see how the vote distribution has been changing over the past 30 days and especially in the last 7 days.

days ago when he introduced his new steem-tool steemanalytics.it@mauritso discussed vote distribution some

"This data is available per account / for the top 100 users with the most Steem Power (SP) / all users. Filter on the top 100 users with the most SP and see what type of content they upvote the most!"

  • Here's how vote distribution looks like for the last 30 days:

  • Here's how it looks like for the last 7 days:

  • Here's a table I did to better understand the trends:

To note:

  • appearance of new categories (blue ones)
  • disappearance of other categories (ethereum, crypto-news)
  • older categories getting traction (photography, life)
  • reduction in the use of steemit (31.9% => 27.5%), steem (14.4% => 5.6%), and introduceyourself (14.2% => 10.6%) tags

Let's keep working on improving this platform.
I find it inappropriate to see how some 'flimsy' figures have been making obscene amounts ($30,000) with a single introduceyourself post. This is a killer of hope for persistent and good content creators - who are in much need for higher visibility.

It is good to see that new categories are emerging. Steemit it's changing, and new user are coming here to talk about new topics.

let's work towards making the changes more than 'modest'. we need momentum!

Seems like the Chinese user base on steemit is growing and there is quite a big Russian one writing in their local language...

In general however the topics discussed are still covering a very narrow range and this should expand as steemit continues to grow, otherwise it may just get boring...

I've been seeing the white paper being translated into several different languages, most recently Thai so I assume there's a lot of interest in people getting more knowledgeable about it. Makes me think of translating it to Romanian...

I remember seeing an Indian translation, but it does not seem that there are a lot of Indian guys around... or maybe they are just writing in English.

most likely I guess :)

I agree with you

This is a wonderful example of why we need to be properly tagging content! As @berniesanders said, stop the steemit circle jerk. It's going to take everyone's involvement to improve our user experience.

that's how it usually goes with new platform. Personally I am still kindof reluctant of this version of social media, but if it will grow enough, other big players will have to comform...

entirely true, but, the introduceyourself tag should at least get some good upvotes to give all new comers some hope right

Unfortunately I think decline in introduce yourself is related to decline in new users as percent of total users.

I agree. But, as you know... some good upvotes != $30-f*ucking-thousands

I would like to see politics grow.

write good content about #politics :) and it will grow

I'll vote for it but I think we need insiders to post like we have in cryptocurrency. We need to get some politico thehill writers on board.

we also need a good 'about' page.

As Steemit is growing I expect more topics and categories will come. And it's very welcome. We don't want a social network where all people are talking only about the network. Imagine Twitter where all users are talking about Twitter itself.
It will take some time...

I've seen this argument brought up quite often. There's nothing wrong talking about the platform, especially now when it's growing. But it's inappropriate to put unrelated posts under the #steemit umbrella

Hopefully as our membership grows we will stop talking about Steemit on Stemmit. Right now people are excited about this new platform and so they want to write or talk about it.

I repeat my reply to @penguinpablo :)

Awesome post!

Thanks
